Franz Anton Ritter von Gerstner (11 May 1796 in Prague – 12 April 1840 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States) was a German-Bohemian civil engineer, professor and railway pioneer. The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales.
