50th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (Greece)
The 50th Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Apsos" ( el, 50ή Μηχανοκίνητη Ταξιαρχία Πεζικού «ΑΨΟΣ», 50 Μ/Κ ΤΑΞ) is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Hellenic Army. It is headquartered in Soufli as part of IV Army Corps. History The brigade traces its history to the 50th Infantry Regiment ( el, 50ό Σύνταγμα Πεζικού, 50 ΣΠ), which was founded in 1919 in Adrianople (now Edirne in Turkey). The regiment fought in the Greco-Italian War in the Albanian front until the capitulation of the Greek Army following the German invasion of Greece in April 1941. After liberation, the regiment was reformed, initially for a short period as the 32nd Brigade (32η Ταξιαρχία), and stationed at Eleftheroupoli. Between 1964 and 1988 it moved its base from Eleftheroupoli to Feres, Pythio, again to Eleftheroupoli and then briefly to Koufovouno. The 50th Indian Brigade was an infantry brigade of the British Indian Army that saw active service with the Indian Army during the First World War. It served in the Mesopotamian Campaign on the Euphrates Front throughout its existence. It was not reformed for the Second World War. History ;Formation The 50th Indian Brigade was formed in Mesopotamia on 20 August 1917 as part of the newly formed 15th Indian Division. It was made up of battalions that had already been in Mesopotamia for some months, guarding lines of communications. 50th Indian Tank Brigade
The 50th Indian Tank Brigade was an armoured brigade formation of the Indian Army during World War II. It was formed for service in the Burma Campaign of World War II from units of the British Army and the British Indian Army. The brigade's formation emblem was a white upraised fist and forearm on a black disc. The 50th Indian Tank brigade was placed under the command of XV Corps in October 1944 as armoured support for the Arakan campaign and located north of Maungdaw at Waybin in early December. Units of the brigade took part in actions at Buthidaung, The Mayu Peninsula, the Myebon Peninsula and Kangaw. The brigade was withdrawn from the Arakan in February 1945. The 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Jersey Blues") was an infantry brigade combat team of the United States Army National Guard of New Jersey. It was headquartered at the Lawrenceville Armory. Background The 50th Brigade Combat Team was the major unit of the New Jersey Army National Guard. The headquarters was located in Lawrenceville, NJ. The 50th Brigade Combat Team had two light infantry battalions, one field artillery battalion, one cavalry squadron, a special troops battalion, two MP companies, and a support battalion. Its nickname "Jersey Blues" dates back to the 17th century with the earliest units serving in both the French and Indian War (see book titled 'Colonial Tribulations') and Rev. War. The brigade's lineage can be traced back to several different units starting with the 50th Armored Division. This unit was disbanded on 1 September 1993 and the division was reduced to the 50th Armored Brigade which was subordinate unit to the 42nd Infantry Division.
