4th Sarasaviya Awards
The 5th Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 5වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1966 Sinhala cinema on July 5, 1967, at the Regal Cinema, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Delovak Athara
''Delovak Athara'' (Sinhala, ''Between Two Worlds'') is a 1966 Sri Lankan drama film directed by Dr. Lester James Peries, the screen play dialog and script by Dr. Tissa Abeysekara. The film stars Tony Ranasinghe and Suvineetha Weerasinghe in lead roles along with Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya and Wijeratne Warakagoda. Peries developed the movie as a character study utilizing a single incident to provide insight into the newly rich society of Sri Lanka in the time period. It proved to be his most successful film up to that time, surpassing '' Gamperaliya'' in box office earnings. It was also a critical success, winning praise from Sinhala critics like Philip Cooray and making the rounds at European film festivals, including the Valladolid Film Festival in Spain. Sumitra Peries
Kala Keerthi Sumitra Peries (born 24 March 1934) is the first Sri Lankan female filmmaker and is known by all as the "Poetess of Sinhala Cinema". She also held the post of Sri Lanka's ambassador to France, Spain and the United Nations in the late 1990s. Of her films the more popular ones are ''Gehenu Lamai'', ''Ganga Addara'' and '' Yahaluvo''. She was married to the most prolific Sri Lankan film director Dr. Lester James Peries. Jayasuriya Arachchige Dona Mary Yvonne Perera, better known as Sandhya Kumari (born 6 January 1945 – died 2 June 1994) was a popular Sri Lankan actress who frequently played femme fatale roles in early Sinhala cinema. Personal life She was born on 6 January 1945 in Colombo. Kumari was married to Upali Perera. Career Kumari's first film role was in the 1963 film ''Adata Wadiya Heta Hondai''. Starring alongside Gamini Fonseka, Jeevarani Kurukulasooriya, Ananda Jayaratne, Nelson Karunagama and Vijitha Mallika, Kumari gained fame with the performance. Deshabandu Ranasinghe Hettiarachchilage Ignatius Anthony Silva (31 July 1937 – 16 June 2015 as ටෝනි රණසිංහ), popularly as Tony Ranasinghe, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. He is known as the Lover of the 70s in Sri Lankan cinema due to the many popular films in which he acted. He was mostly restricted to innocent main role which is full of glamour and feelings. Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya (born 2 December 1941 as ජීවරාණි කුරුකුලසූරිය) inhala, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. One of the most popular actresses in early Sinhala cinema, she played the main role in Sri Lanka's first Sinhala color film ''Ranmuthu Duwa''. Karunaratne Abeysekera
Karunaratne Abeysekera (3 June 1930 – 20 April 1983) was one of Sri Lanka's most famous Sinhala broadcasters. He was also a poet and songwriter and was widely admired for his excellent command of Sinhala. Abeysekera wrote the lyrics to over 2,000 songs, a record for a lyricist in Sri Lanka. His compositions are still covered by some of the island's top musicians to this day, introducing his lyrics to new audiences in South Asia, and his songs are played regularly by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
