The 4th North-West Legislative Assembly was the 6th meeting of the Northwest Territories Legislature. It lasted from 1898 to 1902. 1898 Northwest Territories General Election
The 1898 North-West Territories general election took place on 4 November 1898. This was the fourth general election in the history of the North-West Territories, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the North-West Territories. Frederick W. A. G. Haultain was still the first premier of the North-West Territories (NWT). That title was given by legislation passed in 1897. He was the last premier of the NWT until 1980. There were three big issues in this election, the first being acquiring provincial rights and how to divide the NWT into provinces. The second issue was the transfer of education from the federal to the territorial level. This was Haultain's personal project. Unfortunately for the NWT, that power was not turned over until 1970. Quintus Horatius Flaccus (; 8 December 65 – 27 November 8 BC), known in the English-speaking world as Horace (), was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus (also known as Octavian). Medicine Hat is a city in southeast Alberta, Canada. It is located along the South Saskatchewan River. It is approximately east of Lethbridge and southeast of Calgary. This city and the adjacent Town of Redcliff to the northwest are within Cypress County. Medicine Hat was the sixth-largest city in Alberta in 2016 with a population of 63,230. Leverett George DeVeber (sometimes spelled De VeberBenidickson 178) (February 10, 1849 – July 9, 1925) was a Canadian politician who served as Member of the Legislative Assemblies of Alberta and the North-West Territories, minister in the government of Alberta, and member of the Senate of Canada. Born in New Brunswick and trained as a physician, he joined the North-West Mounted Police and came west, eventually settling in Lethbridge after leaving the police force. He represented Lethbridge in the North-West Legislative Assembly from 1898 until 1905, when Lethbridge became part of the new province of Alberta. He was appointed Minister without Portfolio in Alberta's first government, but resigned four months later to accept an appointment to the Senate, where he remained until his death. William Frederick Meyers, (September 3, 1848 – 1912) was a Canadian politician. He served on the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories for Kinistino from 1891 to 1905. Meyers was a native of Trenton, Ontario. A member of the Church of England, he was a farmer and rancher. Though he was politically affiliated with the Conservative Party of Canada, he was opposed to partisanship in the Legislative Assembly.
