4th Filmfare Awards
The 4th Filmfare Awards were held on 5 May 1957, in Bombay, honoring the best films in Hindi cinema for the year 1956. ''Devdas'' and ''Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'' led the ceremony with 4 nominations each. ''Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'' won 4 awards, including Best Film and Best Director (for V. Shantaram), thus becoming the most-awarded film at the ceremony. While most of the nominated films were released in 1956, the films which won most of the main awards were 1955 releases. ''Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'' () is a 1955 Indian Hindi-language dance film directed by V. Shantaram. It stars Shantaram's wife Sandhya and dancer Gopi Krishna in lead roles. Amiya Chakravarty (30 November 1912 – 6 March 1957) was an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer, who was leading film director in Hindi cinema of the 1940s and 1950s. He is noted for films like ''Daag (1952 film), Daag'' (1952), ''Patita (1953 film), Patita'' (1953), and ''Seema (1955 film), Seema'' (1955) for which he won the 4th Filmfare Awards, 4th Filmfare Award for Filmfare Award for Best Story, Best Story. ''Chori Chori'' (English: ''Stealthily'') is a 1956 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Anant Thakur. It stars Raj Kapoor, Nargis in lead roles. Pran, Johnny Walker, Gope, David, Bhagwan Dada have character parts. It is an adaptation of the 1934 American film ''It Happened One Night''. This was the last film of Nargis and Kapoor together as leads, with Nargis doing one cameo appearance in the Kapoor starrer ''Jagte Raho'' (1956). The Filmfare Best Music Album Award is given by the '' Filmfare'' magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films, to the best composer/arranger of a soundtrack. This category was first presented in 1954. Naushad Ali was the first recipient of this award for his song "Tu Ganga Ki Mauj" from the film ''Baiju Bawra''. ''Chandramukhi'' is one of the pivotal characters in the 1917 Bengali novel ''Devdas'' by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Her character was inspired by the Hindu mystical singer Meera, who devoted her life to Lord Krishna; similarly Chandramukhi devoted her life to Devdas. Chandramukhi is portrayed as a hooker with a heart of gold in the novel and its film adaptations. Chandramukhi means "moon faced" or "as beautiful as the moon" in Sanskrit. Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi (11 November 1924 – 29 July 2003), better known by his stage name Johnny Walker, was an Indian actor who acted in around 300 films. He was best known for his humorous roles in Indian films, notably being typecasted as a hapless drunkard. Early life When his father lost his job, the family moved to Mumbai. Motilal Rajvansh (4 December 1910 – 17 June 1965) was an Indian actor and the winner of Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for ''Devdas (1955 film), Devdas'' (1955) and ''Parakh (1960 film), Parakh'' (1960). Nutan Samarth Bahl (4 June 1936 – 21 February 1991), known mononymously as Nutan, was an Indian actress who worked in Hindi films. In a career spanning nearly four decades, she appeared in more than 70 films, mostly as a protagonist, in both big productions and arthouse films that ranged in genre from urban romances, literary adaptations, to psychological and socio-realist dramas.
