4Music
4Music is a British music television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. The original incarnation was launched on 15 August 2008, and until 29 June 2022, showed a mix of music and entertainment programming. It was a replacement of The Hits television channel. The original version of 4Music was replaced by E4 Extra, a new sister channel and extension of E4, on 29 June 2022. At the same time, 4Music was relaunched into a full-time music TV channel and replaced Box Hits, which ceased broadcasting since. History 4Music began its broadcast in 2008 with an on-screen countdown which lasted for ten minutes. During the countdown, clips from popular music videos were faded through the screen, including clips from promotions for the channel. The Hits
The Hits was a music video channel broadcast in the United Kingdom and Ireland, owned by Box Television. On 15 August 2008 it was rebranded as 4Music. Overview and availability The channel showcased a range of pop centred on chart hits and current favourites. Originally, the vast majority of music videos were selected by viewers by means of calling a premium-rate telephone number, however the policy was abandoned with the channel playing an automated selection of videos and countdown shows presented by celebrities and singers past and present. Programming was often themed to coincide with events such as St. Patrick's Day and Christmas. The channel was available free-to-air on the British digital terrestrial television service Freeview on channel 18. It was also available on Sky Digital, encrypted as a part of Sky's Music Pack. E4 is a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. The "E" stands for ''entertainment'' and the channel is primarily aimed at the 16/18–34 age group (similar to BBC Three, ITV2, 5Star, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Comedy Central and Dave). Programmes currently shown on the channel include ''Hollyoaks'', '' Made in Chelsea'', '' Coach Trip'' (and its Halloween spin-off ''Celebrity Ghost Trip''), '' Celebs Go Dating'' and various versions of ''Married At First Sight''. Box Hits
Box Hits (formerly Smash Hits) was a British commercial television channel owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The channel broadcast general pop music in shows such as Chartbusters, which was recent music and Pop Domination, which showcased new and old music. It also shows other programmes such as themed countdowns and charts such as Top 50 Boy Bands. The channel also had hours dedicated to a particular artist or band such as Pussycat Dolls: Ultimate 10. It was originally based on the former ''Smash Hits'' magazine, which was owned by EMAP. The channel shut down on 29 June 2022 at 6am and was replaced with a new version of 4Music. The channel was available on a number of platforms including Sky and Virgin Media. Channel Four Television Corporation is a British state-owned media company headquartered in London. Its original and principal activity is the British national television network Channel 4. The company was founded in 1982 as the Channel Four Television Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the IBA, and became an independent statutory corporation in 1993. E4 Extra is a British free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation, launched on 29 June 2022. It is a sibling channel to E4 and replaced 4Music, with 4Music in turn replacing Box Hits which has shut down. It shows comedy and entertainment programming, with music programming airing in the mornings. Idents for the new channel have been directed by Michael Marczewski, where various everyday events develop unexpectedly, such as 'most dangerous interdimensional monster' being entered alongside a village fete's massive vegetable competition. Channel 4 is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network operated by the state-owned Channel Four Television Corporation. The Box is a British music television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. It primarily broadcasts music videos and music-related programmes. History The Box was brought to the United Kingdom by Vincent Monsey and his partner Liz Laskowski, who discovered the American music video channel in Miami in 1991, when it was then known as The Jukebox Network. The UK company, Video Jukebox Network International Limited, was formed in 1991 and The Box was launched the following year in April 1992 during the early days of cable television. Kerrang! TV is a British music television channel owned by Channel Four Television Corporation, with permission to use the ''Kerrang!'' brand from Bauer. It is currently the only music channel in the United Kingdom that is dedicated to rock music. As of 2005, all of its programme content is music videos, the majority of which is open-schedule so as to permit text requests from their playlist. Background The TV station's playlist is mainly nu metal, pop punk/skate punk and indie rock, although with some unusual exceptions. Certain acts such as Tenacious D and Limp Bizkit got higher-than-average play rates, due to higher rates of text requests. Magic is a British music television channel owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. It plays mainly easy listening music videos and is based on the Magic radio station owned by Bauer Media Audio UK. Magic mainly focuses on music from the 1970s to the present day. Like other Box Television music television channels under Bauer's brand, Magic operated a jukebox service where viewers were able to request videos to be played via a premium-rate telephone number. Channel 4 has stated it will rebrand Magic TV in 2023, as the rights to use the Magic brand on the channel from Bauer will be ending. Kiss TV is a commercial hip-hop and dance music television channel owned by Channel Four Television , with permission to use the Kiss brand from Bauer Media Audio UK. The playlist predominantly consists of old skool and mainstream hip-hop, grime, EDM/Dance and R&B. It is based on the format of the Bauer owned national radio station Kiss. History The original incarnation of Kiss TV was created by Guy Wingate, was bought back in to head up EMAP's fledgling TV division by then Kiss Chief Executive and the station's original founder, Gordon 'Mac' McNamee. Its programming mainly focuses on lifestyle and documentaries, as well as foreign dramas. Content When the channel first launched in 2005, it mostly focused on US dramas and repeats of Channel 4 programmes.
