The 482nd Fighter Wing (482 FW) is an Air reserve component, Air Reserve Component (ARC) unit of the United States Air Force. It is assigned to the Tenth Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), stationed at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. If mobilized to active duty, the 482 FW is operationally gained by the Air Combat Command (ACC). The 482 FW is the "host wing" for Homestead Air Reserve Base, maintaining and operating the installation located near the southern end of the Florida peninsula, about 25 miles south of Miami. It is a combat coded unit which provides General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-16C and F-16D (Block 30) Fighting Falcon multirole fighter aircraft, along with mission ready pilots and support personnel, for short-notice worldwide deployment. The 482d Fighter-Interceptor Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with Montgomery Air Defense Sector at Homestead Air Force Base, Florida in 1969. During World War II the squadron was a replacement training unit until disbanded in 1944 when the Army Air Forces converted training units to Army Air Force Base Units. It was reconstituted in 1955 and served as a fighter interceptor squadron until 1969. History World War II Activated in 1943 as a IV Fighter Command P-38 Lightning Replacement Training Unit (RTU). The 482d Operations Group is a United States Air Force Reserve unit assigned to the 482d Fighter Wing. It is stationed at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. During World War II, the group was activated in England as the 482d Bombardment Group (Pathfinder), the only Eighth Air Force radar-equipped pathfinder heavy bomber group. Its Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and Consolidated B-24 Liberator aircraft were equipped with first generation radars to guide other bombardment groups to targets obscured by cloud cover over Occupied Europe and Nazi Germany, earning a Distinguished Unit Citation. In 1944, it was removed from combat to focus on training pathfinder aircrews and develop tactics, although its developmental work occasionally required it to fly combat missions.
