456 Montgomery Plaza is a , 26-story class-A office skyscraper on Montgomery Street in the Financial District of San Francisco, California. History 456 Montgomery, completed in August 1985, is a 26-story steel frame high-rise office tower rising above two circa 1907 landmark granite banking facades. Serving as the primary building entrance at 456 Montgomery is the former bank of Borel & Co., designed by Albert Pissis, while at the corner of Montgomery and Sacramento Streets is the former Italian American Bank headquarters by Howard & Galloway that now fronts a leased commercial banking space at 460 Montgomery Street. The modern tower retains the classic temple facades at its base. Albert Pissis
Albert Pissis (1852–1914) was a prolific Mexican-American architect in San Francisco who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France and is credited with introducing the Beaux-Arts architectural style to San Francisco, California, designing a number of important buildings in the city in the years before and after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Life and career Pissis was born on April 26, 1852 in Guaymas in the Mexican state of Sonora. His father was Jose Etienne Pissis (1808-1880), a native of France and a physician, who moved his family to San Francisco, California from Guaymas when Pissis was six. His mother was Juana Bazozabel "Jane" de Bustamante (1824-1893), a native of Guaymas. Pissis was one of the first Americans to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Italian American Bank
Italian American Bank is a historic building built in 1907, and located on 460 Montgomery Street in San Francisco, California. The Italian American Bank building has been listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since April 6, 1980. History A brick building with 7-stories was in the same location, owned by the Italian American Bank, and was destroyed during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The 1907, a 2-story replacement building was designed by the architecture firm Howard & Galloway and built during a period of reconstruction in the neighborhood, using steel reinforced concrete, bricks, and granite.
