44th Berlin International Film Festival
The 44th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 10 to 21 February 1994. The Golden Bear was awarded to British-Irish film ''In the Name of the Father'' directed by Jim Sheridan. The retrospective dedicated to Austrian director, actor and producer Erich von Stroheim was shown at the festival. Susan Seidelman
Susan Seidelman (Born December 11, 1952) is an American film director, producer, and writer. She first came to notice with '' Smithereens'' (1982), the earliest American independent feature to be screened in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Her next feature, ''Desperately Seeking Susan'' (1985), co-starred Madonna in her first film. '' She-Devil'' (1989) starred Meryl Streep in her first starring comedic film role and Roseanne Barr in her first feature-film role. Seidelman's subsequent films mix comedy with drama, blending genres and pop-cultural references with a focus on women protagonists, particularly outsiders. She also works in television and directed the pilot episode of ''Sex and the City''. ''Exile'' is a 1994 Australian drama film directed by Paul Cox. It was entered into the 44th Berlin International Film Festival. The film was shot entirely on location in Tasmania. Plot In the 19th century a young man is banished to an island for stealing a few sheep. ''Charachar'' (English language:''Shelter of the Wings'', bn, চরাচর ) is a 1993 Bengali drama film directed and written by Buddhadev Dasgupta based on a novel by Prafulla Roy. Plot Lakha (Rajit Kapoor) comes from a family of bird catchers, but questions the value of catching birds. He, and the older Bhushan ( Sadhu Meher), sell their caged birds to the local dealer. Lakha's wife, Sari (Laboni Sarkar), complains that he is not ambitious enough because he cares more for the birds than for her, and she starts meeting Natobar.
