William Joel MacDonald Plaskett (born April 18, 1975) is a Canadian rock musician and songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a member of Halifax alternative rock band Thrush Hermit in the 1990s. Plaskett performs in a number of genres, from blues and folk to hard rock, country, and pop. Plaskett's songwriting frequently contains allusions to his home city, Halifax. With his band The Emergency, he has toured throughout North America and Europe with The Tragically Hip, Sloan, Bill Plaskett (his father), and Kathleen Edwards. Grifters is an indie rock/alternative rock band based in Memphis who have released albums on Darla Records, Doink, Sonic Noise, Shangri-La Records, and Sub Pop Records. The band released five studio albums from 1992 to 1997. In the years following 1997, the band had breaks in activity with some members pursuing other musical projects and with the band sporadically touring in the years after. However, in recent years they have continued to tour on a consistent basis and have stated interest in recording new material. The band has released and reissued some of their material on Bandcamp. Bill Plaskett
Bill Plaskett is a British-Canadian folk, rock, Jazz and indie rock musician, best known as a founder of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He is the father of Canadian folk rock musician and JUNO award winner Joel Plaskett, with whom he recorded the collaborative album '' Solidarity'' in 2017. He has also been a contributing musician on some of Joel's other albums, including ''Three''. Biography Plaskett was born in 1945 in London, England, in the 1960s he learned how to play banjo from his father in a traditional jazz and skiffle group, and later learned how to play electric bass in his high school rock band known as Section 62. In the mid-1960s he travelled throughout the United States of America before emigrating to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1967. 2020 Polaris Music Prize
The 2020 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on October 19, 2020. The longlist was announced on June 15, 2020, with the shortlist following on July 15, 2020 and the winner announced on October 19, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional winner's gala did not take place this year, and instead a special cinematic tribute to the shortlist was streamed online by CBC Music and CBC Gem, following which the winner was announced. The award was won by Backxwash for the album ''God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It''. The livestreamed presentation received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Live Production for Social Media at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards. Ana Egge
Ana G. Egge (born September 20, 1976, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a Canadian/American musician and songwriter. Egge grew up the daughter of a teacher and a wheat farmer in Ambrose, North Dakota, and later moved to Silver City, New Mexico. She spent some of her childhood traveling back and forth from North Dakota to a hot springs commune in New Mexico. When Egge was 16 years old, she began a one-year apprenticeship with luthier Don Musser, to build her own guitar which she still plays exclusively. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Career The early songs she wrote were soon noted by bassist Sarah Brown (Albert Collins, Bonnie Raitt) and guitarist Steve James, who persuaded her to record the 1994 cassette EP of her original songs in Austin, Texas. Charlotte Cornfield (born 1988 or 1989) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She has released four albums: ''Two Horses'' (2011), ''Future Snowbird'' (2016), ''The Shape of Your Name'' (2019) and ''Highs in the Minuses'' (2021). Early life Cornfield was born in Toronto, Ontario to an Israeli Jewish father, a classical musician and radio producer, and a mother from Toronto who worked as an editor, and grew up in Ossington and Davenport, Toronto.
