42nd Venice Biennale
The 42nd Venice Biennale, held in 1986, was an exhibition of international contemporary art, with 40 participating nations. The Venice Biennale takes place biennially in Venice, Italy. Prizewinners of the 42nd Biennale included: Frank Auerbach and Sigmar Polke (International Prize/Golden Lion), the French pavilion with Daniel Buren (best national representation), Nunzio Di Stefano (best young artist), and Golden Lion in memory of sculptor Fausto Melotti. These were the first Biennale prizes awarded since 1968. Daniel Buren
Daniel Buren (born 25 March 1938, in Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French conceptual artist, painter, and sculptor. He has won numerous awards including the Golden Lion for best pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1986), the International Award for best artist in Stuttgart (1991) and the prestigious Premium Imperiale for painting in Tokyo in 2007. He has created several world-famous installations, including "Les Deux Plateaux"(1985) in the Cour d'honneur of the Palais-Royal, and the Observatory of the Light in Fondation Louis Vuitton. He is one of the most active and recognised artists on the international scene, and his work has been welcomed by the most important institutions and sites around the world. Fausto Melotti (1901–1986) was an Italian sculptor, ceramicist, poet, and theorist. Life Fausto Melotti was born in the city of Rovereto, a city just east of Lake Garda in northeastern Italy in 1901. He had a sister, Renata Melotti, who was also an artist―Renata married the architect Gino Pollini. During the First World War, his family fled intense fighting in the Alpine region and moved to Florence. Melotti was married and had two daughters; one, Marta Melotti started the foundation dedicated to her father's work. Melotti passed away at his home on Corso Magenta in Milan on 22 June 1986. Education In Florence, Melotti enrolled in the Istituto Tecnico di Firenze and then the Università di Pisa where he studied physics and mathematics. Nunzio Di Stefano
James Maritato (born March 12, 1972) is an American professional wrestler, best known for his work in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) under the ring names Little Guido and Nunzio. A high-school football player and amateur wrestler, he trained under Billy Robinson, making his professional debut in the early nineties. He joined Eastern Championship Wrestling initially as an enhancement talent, as well as competing in the shoot style UWF International promotion. Maritato later returned to ECW (now Extreme Championship Wrestling), being given the gimmick of “Little Guido” as part of the comedy stable the Full Blooded Italians (F.B.I). Sigmar Polke
Sigmar Polke (13 February 1941 – 10 June 2010) was a German painter and photographer. Polke experimented with a wide range of styles, subject matters and materials. In the 1970s, he concentrated on photography, returning to paint in the 1980s, when he produced abstract works created by chance through chemical reactions between paint and other products.
