42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival
The 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival from June 29th to July 7th 2007. The Crystal Globe was won by ''Jar City'', an Icelandic police detective film directed by Baltasar Kormákur. The second prize, the Special Jury Prize was won by ''Lucky Miles'', an Australian drama directed by Michael James Rowland. Bård Breien was named Best Director. The Best Actress title went to Elvira Mínguez, and Best Actor to Sergey Puskepalis. Empties
''Empties'' ( cs, Vratné lahve) is a 2007 film directed by Jan Svěrák and written by his father Zdeněk Svěrák, who also stars in the film. It was released first in the Czech Republic in March 2007. The film is a comedy from the same team which made Kolya. Plot Josef Tkaloun is an elderly teacher at a high school in Prague who cannot control his anger when his pupils misbehave in his poetry class. He quits his job and despite his wife urging him to retire, becomes a cycle courier. After an inevitable accident, he still refuses to stay at home and takes a job in the local Žižkov supermarket. He works behind a counter, recycling glass beer bottles. There he begins to flirt with the customers and matchmake both for an old friend and for the man he works with. His own flirtations (and sexually charged dreams) almost get him into trouble with his wife, so he resolves to reignite the passion in his marriage by celebrating his wedding anniversary with a hot air balloon ride. Zdeněk Svěrák
Zdeněk Svěrák (born 28 March 1936) is a Czech actor, humorist, playwright and scriptwriter, and one of the most well-known and popular Czech cultural personalities. Since 1968 he has appeared in 32 films. Career In 1958, he graduated in Czech language and literature from the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague. His work consists of more than 300 musical texts and plays, and he has appeared in 32 feature films. Among his film scripts are the Academy Award-winning ''Kolya'' and ''The Elementary School'', both directed by his son Jan Svěrák as well as ''My Sweet Little Village''. With his close friend Ladislav Smoljak and their radio colleague Jiří Šebánek, he created the fictional polymath Jára Cimrman for the radio programme ''Vinárna U pavouka'' in 1966. Leonid Sergeyevich Bronevoy (russian: Леони́д Серге́евич Бронево́й; December 17, 1928 – December 9, 2017) was a Soviet and Russian actor. Though primarily a stage actor in the Lenkom Theatre, Bronevoy also made occasional appearances in films. He was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1987 and won the Nika Award in March 2008. Early life Bronevoy was born in Kyiv on December 17, 1928, into the Jewish family of Solomon Iosifovich Bronevoy (who changed his family name from Faktorovich) and Bella Lvovna Bronevaya. In his childhood, he learned to play violin under the instruction of Kyiv Conservatory professor David Solomonovich Berthier. His father, Solomon Bronevoy, came from the family of a confectioner from Odessa and had participated in the Russian Civil War. ''The Art of Negative Thinking'' (Norwegian: ''Kunsten å tenke negativt'') is a 2006 Norwegian black comedy film directed and written by Bård Breien. The storyline revolves around a man (played by Fridtjov Såheim) who is adjusting to life in a wheelchair, and the socializing group he is made to join. The film was Breien's directorial debut.
