WhatCulture Ltd. is an online entertainment news website and magazine which was launched in 2010. The site offers news in the field of professional wrestling, television, films, video games, and board games. History Originally started by Peter Willis and Matt Holmes as ObsessedWithFilm in 2006, WhatCulture had its headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne before moving to Baltic Place in 2015. As ObsessedWithFilm, the site was geared towards news and conversation about things going on in Hollywood. On August 17, 2011, WhatCulture's YouTube channel was created but the company did not upload its first video until October 14, 2014. On December 11, 2014, WhatCulture opened a new channel originally named WhatCulture WWE, now known as WhatCulture Wrestling. Bob Ryder (October 22, 1956 – November 24, 2020) was an American professional wrestling journalist and one of the founders of Impact Wrestling (then Total Nonstop Action). Ryder had been an innovator in the online wrestling community as he was the head of Prodigy's professional wrestling area. During this time, he became the first person to conduct an online interview for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), when he interviewed Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels during WrestleMania XI in 1995. He was also the founder of '' 1Wrestling.com'' and the webmaster for Extreme Championship Wrestling's (ECW) website. John Pollock is a Canadian sports reporter best known for his work on Fight Network Radio, '' Live Audio Wrestling'' and founding the website ''POST Wrestling''. He has also produced the acclaimed documentary '' Survival of the Hitman'' about professional wrestler Bret Hart. Early life Pollock was born in Toronto. Career Pollock began his career as a professional wrestling and combat sports reporter with the Fight Network for their radio show '' The LAW'' with co-host Wai-Ting. Professional wrestling is a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches. The mock combat is performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing, and the dramatic aspects of pro wrestling may be performed both in the ring or—as in televised wrestling shows—in backstage areas of the venue, in similar form to reality television. Professional wrestling as a form of theater evolved out of the widespread practice of match fixing among wrestlers in the early 20th century. Rather than sanction the wrestlers for their deceit as was done with boxers, the public instead came to see professional wrestling as a performance art rather than a sport. Ryan Satin is an American pop culture and professional wrestling journalist. He was a producer for TMZ and founded Pro Wrestling Sheet which reports on professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. He has since left the site and now works for Fox Sports. He is the son of Scott Satin, a Hollywood producer and writer. Southern California Pro-Wrestling Hall Of Fame
The Southern California Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame was created in 2001 by wrestlers Cincinnati Red, Jason "Primetime" Peterson and Steven Bryant, it was dedicated in the memory of Louie Spicolli. The Hall of Fame was created with the mission to preserve and promote the history of professional wrestling in Southern California. It is currently hosted on the SoCal Uncensored website. History The 2010 induction ceremony took place at Mach 1 Wrestling's Hall of Fame Cup. Disco Machine and TARO accepted the award for Super Dragon who could not be there, and Joey Munoz accepted the award for Dynamite D who died in 2007. Voting for the 2016 inductions took place in February 2016. The 2017 induction ceremony took place on September 22, 2017 at a Santino Bros. Wrestling Academy event in Downey, CA. SoCalUncensored.com is a professional wrestling news website based in Southern California. It is owned by Steven Bryant and was created in 2001. The site aggregates local wrestling and MMA events and a number of wrestlers such as Samoa Joe and Jake Atlas have contributed to the site over the years. The popularity of the site led Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky to name their professional wrestling stable as "SoCal Uncensored" in homage to it. Pro Wrestling Stable At Ring of Honor's Final Battle, Scorpio Sky joined Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian, becoming known as SoCal Uncensored. They chose the name SoCal Uncensored in homage to the website, which all three were fans of. Before using the name they asked for and were granted permission from the website to use the name.
