46th General Assembly Of Newfoundland And Labrador
The 46th Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly was summoned to meet on March 10, 2008, its members having been sworn in and elected its speaker on November 1, 2007, and was dissolved on September 19, 2011. The Progressive Conservative government led by Danny Williams was re-elected with a landslide victory. The Liberal and NDP opposition was nearly wiped off the electoral map. Williams resigned in 2010 and his Deputy Premier Kathy Dunderdale was sworn in as the Premier. Confederation Building (Newfoundland And Labrador)
The Confederation Building serves as the home of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. It is located on Confederation Hill overlooking Newfoundland and Labrador's capital city, St. John's. The brick- and concrete-clad building has 11 stories and is tall. It was completed in 1960 at a cost of $9 million to replace the Colonial Building. A lantern is located at the top of the copper roof of the central tower and acts as a beacon when turned on at night. In 1982, construction began on the West Block extension, a modern 7-storey structure, which is a six-storey building, with a gross floor area of . Port De Grave (electoral District)
Port de Grave is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Fishing was a prime industry in the district and many people commute to work in the St. John's area. Bay Roberts was an important service centre for the region and there is some light industrial activity. In 2011, there were 8,914 eligible voters living within the district. The district included the communities of Bay Roberts, Bareneed, Bishop's Cove, Blow Me Down, Bryant's Cove, Hibb's Cove, Port de Grave, Ship Cove, Spaniard's Bay, The Dock, Tilton and Upper Island Cove. Roger Fitzgerald is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He represented the district of Bonavista South from 1993 to 2011 and served as Speaker of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. Virginia Waters (electoral District)
Virginia Waters is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The district was represented by former premier Kathy Dunderdale. A residential district in the northeast end of St. John's, the area included Airport Heights, Wedgewood Park, residential areas off Newfoundland Drive, as well as a fairly wealthy enclave near Virginia Lake. The district was created in 1995 from parts of the districts of Pleasantville, St. John's East Extern and Mount Scio Road-Bell Island. Virginia Waters retained 80 per cent of its original territory in the 2007 redistribution, while taking in 14 per cent of Cape St. Francis. Kilbride is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 10,251 eligible voters living within the district. The district was abolished in 2015 and replaced by Waterford Valley. The district made up the southern portion of the city of St. John's, including the rural neighbourhoods of the Goulds and Kilbride. Agriculture was an important industry in the district. It was one of the strongest Progressive Conservative (PC) districts in the Newfoundland and Labrador, voting 85% for the Torys in the 2007 election. Mount Pearl South was a prosperous, mostly suburban provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Prior to the 2007 provincial election, the district was known as Mount Pearl. Mount Pearl South has seen an expansion in big-box retail outlets in recent years. In 2011, there were 8,114 eligible voters living within the district. The district was created in 1975 and was a Tory stronghold for two decades, with Progressive Conservative Neil Windsor holding the seat from 1975 to 1995. The seat went Liberal in 1996 when Brian Tobin won a large majority government, but returned to the Progressive Conservatives, under Dave Denine, in 2003 when the party swept back to power. Derrick Dalley
Derrick Dalley , (born July 22, 1965) is a former Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He served as the Minister of Natural Resources in the provincial cabinet. Dalley has represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 2007 until 2015. Before entering politics he worked as a guidance counselor and principal. Early life Dalley was born in Twillingate, Notre Dame Bay. He spent his early years in Springdale before returning to Twillingate, where he completed high school. Dalley went on to attend Memorial University of Newfoundland where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in political science, and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1987. In 1992, he completed a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of New Brunswick.
