The 3rd Filmfare Awards were held in 1956. ''Biraj Bahu'' and ''Jagriti'' won 2 awards each, with the former winning Best Director (for Bimal Roy) and Best Actress (for Kamini Kaushal), and the latter winning Best Film and Best Supporting Actor (for Abhi Bhattacharya), thus becoming the most-awarded films at the ceremony. Abhi (Devanagari अभि) is a preposition in Sanskrit, also found in Pali, Bengali, Assamese and Hindi. Today, it remains a productive element in forming names. Naukri ( ''Job'') is a 1954 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Bimal Roy for Bimal Roy Productions. The lead actors were Kishore Kumar and Sheila Ramani. This film is about the dreams and aspirations of the educated youth getting shattered as they struggle in the city for employment, in the ensuing years after India attained independence. ''Naukri'' and ''Baap Beti'' (1954) are cited as "sensitive" and "memorable" films from Roy. In ''Naukri'', Bimal Roy tackles yet another social problem, this time involving unemployment. Hrishikesh Mukherjee (30 September 1922 – 27 August 2006) was an Indian film director, editor and writer. He is regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of Indian cinema. Popularly known as ''Hrishi-da'', he directed 42 films during his career spanning over four decades, and is named the pioneer of the 'middle cinema' of India. ''Yasmin'' ( hi, यास्मिन) is a 1955 Hindi Black-and-white Costume drama, written, produced and directed by Abdur Rashid Kardar. The film starred Vyjayanthimala in the title role, with Suresh in the lead, while Jayant, Rashid Khan, Maruti Rao, S. N. Banerjee, Shyam Kumar and Rajan Haksar form an ensemble cast. Dwarka Divecha
Dwarka Divecha (Dwarkadas Divecha, March 19, 1918 – January 5, 1978) was an Indian cinematographer and actor. Early life Divecha was born in Bombay, India. Career Divecha worked as a cameraman and cinematographer on about 30 movies. In 1955 he won a Filmfare Best Photographer in Black and White award for his work on the film '' Yasmin''. In 1960 he acted in the film ''Singapore''. His best known film is ''Sholay'', in which he was also involved in creating the sets and special effects. The film has been since re-released in 3D. The film was a box office hit, and critics agreed that the quality of the photography contributed to its success. Divecha died on January 5, 1978. Mirza Ghalib (film)
''Mirza Ghalib'' is a 1954 Indian Hindi and Urdu language biographical film, directed by Sohrab Modi. Based on the life of well-known poet Mirza Ghalib, the film was acclaimed upon release. It stars Bharat Bhushan as Ghalib and Suraiya as his courtesan lover. The film won the President's Gold Medal for the All India Best Feature Film and the President's Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Hindi in the 2nd National Film Awards for 1954. ''Amar'' () is a 1954 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film produced and directed by Mehboob Khan.
