3rd Combat Communications Group
The United States Air Force's 3rd Combat Communications Group (3 CCG) was a United States Air Force combat communications unit located at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. The 3 CCG inactivated 30 September 2013, affecting more than 700 military billets. Media reports state that the 3 CCG was inactivated by order of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. However, no part of the act addresses the inactivation of the unit and no Air Force communications or tactical comm-electronics budget requests were denied by Congress. The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award or MUA is a mid level unit award of the United States Air Force. Established in 2004, the award recognizes those units who demonstrate exceptionally meritorious conduct in direct support of combat operations. Eligible service is retroactive to 11 September 2001. Tactical Air Command (TAC) is an inactive United States Air Force organization. It was a Major Command of the United States Air Force, established on 21 March 1946 and headquartered at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. Robins Air Force Base is a major United States Air Force installation located in Houston County, Georgia, United States. The base is located just east of the city of Warner Robins, south-southeast of Macon and approximately south-southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. The 689th Combat Communications Wing was a wing of the United States Air Force stationed at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. The wing was activated on 9October 2009 as a subordinate unit of Twenty-Fourth Air Force. On 5June 2013, the wing was inactivated, along with the 3d Combat Communications Group at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. 34th Combat Communications Squadron
The 34th Combat Communications Squadron (34 CBCS) was a United States Air Force combat communications squadron, located at Tinker AFB. Mission History The unit emblem was designed by SrA Steve Carter in 1995, who would later go on to retire as a TSgt. SrA Carter was tasked to draft something without direction, "Carter, you're an artist. We need an idea for an emblem by end of day." The artist had been reading Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian books that week and, on short notice, drafted the emblem in a rough form and submitted it that day. The emblem consisted of a black anthropomorphic bull wielding a broadsword in one hand and holding a globe in the other. The broadsword originally broke out from the border, which is not allowed in Air Force heraldry. By popular vote, the squadron chose this design over others submitted.
