The Festival des 3 Continents is an annual film festival held since 1979 in Nantes, France, and is devoted to the cinemas of Asia, and Africa and Latin America. A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Lino Brocka
Catalino Ortiz Brocka (April 3, 1939 – May 22, 1991) was a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant filmmakers in the history of Philippine cinema. He co-founded the organization Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP), dedicated to helping artists address issues confronting the country, and the Free the Artist Movement. He was a member of the Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy. He directed landmark films such as ''Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang'' (1974), '' Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag'' (1975), ''Insiang'' (1976), '' Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim'' (1984), and '' Orapronobis'' (1989). Stanley Kwan
Stanley Kwan (traditional Chinese: 關錦鵬; simplified Chinese: 关锦鹏); born 9 October 1957) is a Hong Kong film director and producer. Kwan landed a job at TVB after receiving a mass communications degree at Hong Kong Baptist College. Kwan's first film was ''Women'' (1985), which starred Chow Yun-fat, and was a big box-office success. Kwan's films often deal sympathetically with the plight of women and their struggles with romantic affairs of the heart. ''Rouge'' (1987), ''Full Moon in New York'' (1989), ''Center Stage'' (1992; a.k.a. ''Rouge'' (; Jyutping: Jin1zi1 kau3) is a 1987 Hong Kong supernatural romantic-drama film, directed by Stanley Kwan and starring Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung. Ömer Kavur
Ömer Kavur (18 June 1944 – 12 May 2005) was a Turkish film director, producer and screenwriter. He directed fourteen films between 1974 and 2003. His film, '' Gece Yolculuğu'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. Nine years later, his film '' Akrebin Yolculuğu'' was screened in the same section at the 1997 Festival. He died on 12 May 2005, of lymphoma at his home in Teşvikiye, Istanbul, and was buried at the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following the religious funeral service held at the Teşvikiye Mosque. ''Motherland Hotel'' ( tr, Anayurt Oteli) is a 1987 Turkish film directed by Ömer Kavur. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Yusuf Atılgan. Plot Zebercet owns a hotel in a small provincial town. He manages to keep it up with the help of one maid, a little girl who lives with him. Amir Naderi ( fa, امیر نادری (), born 15 August 1946, in Abadan) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and photographer. He is best known for '' The Runner'' and ''Vegas: Based on a True Story''. Career Amir Naderi grew up in Abadan, a working-class port city in the south of Iran. He became interested in photography and cinema at an early age. As a filmmaker he was inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson's photography of urban experience and everyday life, as well as the aesthetics of Italian neorealist cinema, such as location shooting, the use of nonprofessional actors, looser narrative structures, and a focus on the plight of poor and working-class people.
