"36 Degrees" is a song by United Kingdom, British alternative rock band Placebo (band), Placebo, released as the second single from their Placebo (album), eponymous debut album. It reached number 80 in the UK Singles Chart. Song meaning There are various suggestions as to the meaning of the song, such as it relates to sexual preferences or it is to do with dying. Some state "36 Degrees" refers to the average human body temperature being generally accepted as , and that the narrator is dying, or losing the will to live after being dumped by a partner. Singer Brian Molko is stated to have said before a performance "The average body temperature is 37 degrees. This is a song called 36 Degrees", further adding to the speculation. However, the term "36 degrees" also means two people who are not getting on in urban slang; therefore the idea of the song being written for a break-up could well be true. Placebo (band)
Placebo are a British rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined in late 1994, but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single " Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The band stood out amongst the Britpop scene they were associated with at the time for their androgynous appearance and musical content, and lyrics which openly discussed sexuality, mental health, and drug use. Syd Barrett
Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965. Barrett was their original frontman and primary songwriter, becoming known for his whimsical style of psychedelia, English-accented singing, and stream-of-consciousness writing style. As a guitarist, he was influential for his free-form playing and for employing effects such as dissonance, distortion, echo and feedback. "Dark Globe" (also known as "Wouldn't You Miss Me") is a song by Syd Barrett, released on his first solo album ''The Madcap Laughs''. Recording Syd Barrett recorded "Dark Globe" and other songs during a session held on 12 June 1969, with producers David Gilmour and Roger Waters. Despite both Gilmour and Waters considering the song finished, Barrett recorded the song a third time towards the end of the session. The version recorded at the start of the session was the one released on the finished album. On 26 July 1969 Barrett recorded "Dark Globe" again. This take was titled "Wouldn't You Miss Me" on the recording sheet. The track, along with two others, was mixed on August 6 of the same year. It was released on 27 November 2015, in the formats of CD, DVD, Blu-ray, double vinyl, limited edition double vinyl picture disc, digital download and limited edition super deluxe box set. Recorded on 19 August 2015 at The London Studios, it is part of the MTV Unplugged series.
