34th Sarasaviya Awards
The 34rd Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 34වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 2016 and 2017 Sinhala cinema on August 3, 2018, at the BMICH, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony was hosted by Saman Atahdudahetti. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe was the chief guest. '' 28'' won the most awards, including Best Picture, for 2017 and Motor Bicycle won Best Picture for 2016. The Sarasaviya Awards ceremony is one of the oldest film events in Sri Lanka. The awards were first introduced in 1964 and are often referred to as the Sinhala Cinema industry's equivalent to The Oscars. Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall
The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), ( si, බණ්ඩාරනායක ජාත්‍යාන්තර සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාව ta, பண்டாரநாயக்க சர்வதேச மாநாட்டு மண்டபம்) is a convention center located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built between 1970 and 1973, the convention centre was a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, Prime Minister (1956–1959). The construction of the hall was carried out by a joint Sri Lankan and Chinese workforce with a considerable portion of the building materials being imported from China. In 1998 a small Exhibition Centre, the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre, was built on the grounds as a gift from China. The BMICH premises is managed by the S. W. R. D. Robin Fernando
Pattiyage Robin Steven Fernando (born 15 June 1937 – died 8 January 2022 as රොබින් ප්‍රනාන්දු in inhala, popularly as Robin Fernando, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television as well as a stunt coordinator. Considered as one of the best stunt directors in Sinhala cinema, Fernando started his career in the 1965 film ''Chandiya'', and rose to prominence with lead roles. Early life and education Fernando was born on 15 June 1937 at Kotahena, Sri Lanka as the third of the family. His father Cyril Anthony served in Department of Printing and as Chief Foreman in the Printing Division of the M.D. Gunasena Company. His mother Vilet Anthony was a housewife. Malaka Dewapriya ( si, මාලක දේවප්‍රිය, is a Sri Lankan film maker, visual artist, Sinhala Radio Play writer, short film and video director. Bahuchithawadiya
''Bahuchithawadiya (The Undecided)'' ( si, බහුචිතවාදියා) is an upcoming Sri Lankan Sinhala drama romance film directed and produced by Malaka Dewapriya. It stars Kalana Gunasekara and Veena Jayakody in lead roles along with Lakshman Mendis, Samanalee Fonseka and Damitha Abeyratne. Music composed by Chitral Somapala. in Sinhala language ‘Bahu’ means multiple and ‘Chitha’ means thoughts. ‘Bahuchithawadiya’ simply means ‘one in many minds’ or ‘one who lacks single-mindedness’. Lester James Peries
Sri Lankabhimanya Lester James Peries ( Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකාභිමාන්‍ය ලෙස්ටර් ජේම්ස් පීරිස්; 5 April 1919 – 29 April 2018) was a Sri Lankan film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Considered as the father of Sri Lankan cinema, Lester worked as a filmmaker from 1949 to 2006, and was involved in over 28 films, including shorts and documentaries. He received critical acclaim for directing ''Rekava'', '' Gamperaliya'', ''Nidhanaya'', ''Golu Hadawatha'', '' Kaliyugaya'', ''Awaragira'' and ''Yuganthaya''. His movie '' Wekande Walauwa'', starring Ravindra Randeniya and Malini Fonseka, was Sri Lanka's first ever submission for the Academy Awards and the film ''Nidhanaya'' was included among the top 100 films of the century by the Cinémathèque Française.
