3409 Abramov, provisional designation , is a stony Koronian asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, approximately 11 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 9 September 1977, by Soviet–Russian astronomer Nikolai Chernykh at Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnyj on the Crimean peninsula. The asteroid was named after Russian writer Fyodor Abramov. Orbit and classification The S-type asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group consisting of about 200 known stony bodies with nearly ecliptical orbits. It orbits the Sun in the Kirkwood gap, outer main-belt at a distance of 2.6–3.1 Astronomical unit, AU once every 4 years and 10 months (1,761 days). Its orbit has an orbital eccentricity, eccentricity of 0.08 and an orbital inclination, inclination of 1Degree (angle), ° with respect to the ecliptic. Nikolai Stepanovich Chernykh (russian: Никола́й Степа́нович Черны́х) (6 October 1931 – 25 May 2004Казакова, Р.К. Памяти Николая Степановича Черных'. Biography and work Chernykh was born in the Russian city of Usman in Voronezh Oblast, in present-day Lipetsk Oblast. He specialized in astrometry and the dynamics of small bodies in the Solar System and worked at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory from 1963. In astronomy, precovery (short for pre-discovery recovery) is the process of finding the image of an object in images or photographic plates predating its discovery, typically for the purpose of calculating a more accurate orbit. This happens most often with minor planets, but sometimes a comet, a dwarf planet, a natural satellite, or a star is found in old archived images; even exoplanet precovery observations have been obtained.
