321st Cavalry Regiment (United States)
The 321st Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry unit of the United States Army during the interwar period. The unit was activated as a Missouri and Arkansas Organized Reserve unit during the interwar period. It was converted into a signal aircraft warning regiment after the United States entered World War II. History The regiment was constituted on 15 October 1921 in the Organized Reserves, part of the 66th Cavalry Division's 161st Cavalry Brigade in the Seventh Corps Area. It was initiated (activated) in January 1922 with headquarters at Kansas City, 1st Squadron at St. Louis, and 2nd Squadron at Little Rock. On 26 May 1926, the 1st Squadron moved to Sedalia, while the 2nd Squadron moved to St. Joseph. In July 1929, the regiment added a 3rd Squadron at St. Louis, with the 1st Squadron simultaneously moving to Kansas City. Minutemen
Minutemen were members of the organized New England colonial militia companies trained in weaponry, tactics, and military strategies during the American Revolutionary War. They were known for being ready at a minute's notice, hence the name. Minutemen provided a highly mobile, rapidly deployed force that enabled the colonies to respond immediately to military threats. They were an evolution from the prior colonial rapid-response units. The minutemen were among the first to fight in the American Revolution. The 321st Armored Cavalry Regiment (321st ACR) was a Virginia-based reconnaissance unit of the United States Army Organized Reserve Corps, which briefly existed after World War II. It was constituted in 1948, partially organized from existing units in 1949, and disbanded in 1952. History The 321st Armored Cavalry was constituted on 26 November 1948 in the Organized Reserve Corps, and partially organized on 29 March 1949 from existing units. The 1st Battalion was redesignated from the 317th Mechanized Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, constituted on 8 November 1946 in the Organized Reserves and activated on 19 November at Lynchburg. Citizens' Military Training Camp
Citizens' Military Training Camps (CMTC) were military training programs of the United States. Held annually each summer during the years 1921 to 1940, the CMTC camps differed from National Guard and Organized Reserve training in that the program allowed male citizens to obtain basic military training without an obligation to call-up for active duty. The CMTC were authorized by the National Defense Act of 1920 as a compromise that rejected universal military training. In its nearly two decades of operation, the CMTC trained some 400,000 men in at least one season from 1921 to 1940. Overall the program was disappointing, as only 5,000 officer commissions were awarded to men who completed the required four summers of training.
