320th Cavalry Regiment (United States)
The 320th Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry unit of the United States Army during the interwar period. The unit was activated as a Wisconsin and Illinois Organized Reserve unit during the interwar period. It was converted into a tank destroyer battalion after the United States entered World War II. History The regiment was constituted on 15 October 1921 in the Organized Reserves, part of the 65th Cavalry Division's 160th Cavalry Brigade in the Sixth Corps Area. It was initiated (activated) on 21 September 1922 with headquarters and 1st Squadron at Milwaukee and 2nd Squadron at Rock Island, Illinois. In July 1929, the regiment was reorganized to add a 3rd Squadron at Milwaukee. The regiment usually held its inactive training period meetings at the 105th Cavalry Regiment Armory in Milwaukee. Minutemen
Minutemen were members of the organized New England colonial militia companies trained in weaponry, tactics, and military strategies during the American Revolutionary War. They were known for being ready at a minute's notice, hence the name. Minutemen provided a highly mobile, rapidly deployed force that enabled the colonies to respond immediately to military threats. A gauntlet is a variety of glove, particularly one having been constructed of hardened leather or metal plates which protected the hand and wrist of a combatant in Europe between the early fourteenth century and the Early Modern period. Today it can also refer to an extended cuff covering the forearm as part of a woman's garment. 320th Armored Cavalry Regiment
The 320th Armored Cavalry Regiment (320th ACR) was an Ohio-based reconnaissance unit of the United States Army Organized Reserve Corps, which briefly existed after World War II. It was constituted in 1948, partially organized from existing units in 1949, and inactivated in 1950. History The 320th Armored Cavalry was constituted on 26 November 1948 in the Organized Reserve Corps, and partially organized on 29 March 1949 from existing units. Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School
The Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School was a military base and training facility on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa. Established in 1901, the base is notable as the place where African Americans were trained to be officers for the U.S. Army during World War I, and where women first began training for US Army service in 1942 as part of the Women's Army Corps. Surviving older portions of the base were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974 in recognition of this history.. Sheridan Reserve Center
The Philip H. Sheridan Reserve Center is the former Fort Sheridan now in Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as a United States Army Post named after Civil War Cavalry General Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago. When the main fort was officially closed by the Army on May 3, 1993, the majority of the property was sold by the Department of Defense to commercial land developers. Most of the original housing structures were then refurbished and resold as a residential community. The 105th Cavalry Regiment is a regiment in the United States Army National Guard. The regiment has been formed three times, and due to the complicated lineage system of the United States Army, all three formations are now considered as completely separate units. Sixth Corps Area
Sixth Corps Area was a Corps area, effectively a military district, of the United States Army from 1921 to the 1940s. The headquarters was established at Sheridan Reserve Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois, in August 1920, from portions of the former Central Department, but then moved to the U.S. Post Office Building at 1819 West Pershing Road in Chicago on 10 October 1921.
