34th European Film Awards
The 34th European Film Awards were presented in Berlin, Germany on 11 December 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the awards went ahead without an in person audience, taking the form of a hybrid event, including pre-produced and live online. European Film Academy
The European Film Academy is an initiative of a group of European filmmakers who came together in Berlin on the occasion of the first presentation of the European Film Awards in November 1988. The Academy—under the name of European Cinema Society—was officially founded by its first President, the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, as well as 40 filmmakers from all over Europe, among them Bernardo Bertolucci, Claude Chabrol, Dušan Makavejev, István Szabó, and Wim Wenders. Every year, the European Film Academy honours films and filmmakers with the European Film Awards. Nadav Lapid
Nadav Lapid () is an Israeli screenwriter and film director. Film critics consider him to be among the most internationally acclaimed filmmakers from Israel. Biography Lapid was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, to a family of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. He is the son of writer and film editor , he studied philosophy at Tel Aviv University, moving to Paris after his military service in the Israel Defense Forces. He returned to Israel to pursue a degree at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem. Lapid is married to Naama Preis, an Israeli actress; they reside in Tel Aviv. ''Dear Comrades!'' (russian: Дорогие товарищи!, Dorogie tovarishchi!) is a 2020 Russian historical drama film about the Novocherkassk massacre produced, co-written and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. It was entered in competition at the 77th Venice International Film Festival. At Venice, the film won the Special Jury Prize. The film received a nomination for BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language and was selected as the Russian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, making the shortlist of fifteen films. Juho Kuosmanen
Juho Kuosmanen (born September 30, 1979) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He graduated from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in 2014. Kuosmanen's graduation film called The Painting Sellers was nominated for five Finnish film Academy Awards. (set design, screenplay, best actress, best director, best film). The Painting Sellers won the first prize in Cinéfondation in Cannes Film Festival in 2010. Kuosmanen worked as an actor in Leea Klemola's arctic trilogy in Tampere Theatre in Kokkola and New Karleby. Kuosmanen has also directed opera with conductors Sakari Oramo and Santtu-Matias Rouvali. Déa Kulumbegashvili is a Georgian film director and writer, of Ossetian origin. She is known for her 2020 film ''Beginning'', which won and was nominated for numerous awards. Kulumbegashvili was born in Oriol, Russia (Oryol), and raised in a small town called Lagodekhi at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. Her filmmaking has been informed by her experience of growing up in a place with such a mix of ethnicities and nationalities. She went to New York, where she enrolled in the Media Studies course at The New School, before earning a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts, where she enrolled in 2014.
