2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards
The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year. Juanes won three awards including Best New Artist. Cancellation Prior to the date of the event, the Latin Grammys were moved from Miami to Los Angeles due to protests by Cuban exiles for allowing musicians living in Cuba to perform. The awards were to have been presented at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles CA with a CBS national telecast on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. ''Fíjate Bien'' (Spanish for ''Pay Attention'') is the debut studio album recorded by Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes, It was released by Surco Records on October 17, 2000 (see 2000 in music). The album was produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, who is known for his contributions to Latin rock tracks. All the songs on the album were written by Juanes himself. The strings were arranged, orchestrated and conducted by David Campbell, who has also worked on several other albums by Juanes. ''As Canções de Eu Tu Eles'' () is an album released by Brazilian singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil in 2001. The album is the soundtrack for the 2000 film '' Eu Tu Eles'' directed by Andrucha Waddington, starred by Regina Casé, Lima Duarte, Stênio Garcia and Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos. Set in Russas, the film is about a countywoman who lives together with her three husbands and two children in the arid backlands of the northeast of Brazil. At the 2000 Cannes Film Festival it earned a "Special Distinction" in the ''Un Certain Regard'' section. Vicente Amigo Girol (born 25 March 1967) is a Spanish flamenco composer and guitarist, born in Guadalcanal near Seville. He has played as an accompanying guitarist on recordings by flamenco singers Camarón de la Isla, and Luis de Córdoba, and he has acted as a producer for Remedios Amaya and José Mercé. His album ''Ciudad de las Ideas'' won the 2001 Latin Grammy for the Best Flamenco Album and the 2002 Ondas award for the best Flamenco work. Biography Amigo was raised in Córdoba, where he took guitar lessons and later improved his playing with Manolo Sanlúcar, with whom he worked for ten years. Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira (; born 26 June 1942), is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and politician, known for both his musical innovation and political activism.
