2nd Anniversary
''2nd Anniversary'' is the fifteenth studio album recorded by American R&B group Gladys Knight & the Pips, released in October 1975 on the Buddah label. It was their fourth overall album for Buddah. The first single release, "Money", was moderately successful, reaching #4 R&B and #50 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The second single, "Part Time Love", was more successful, peaking at #22 pop and #4 R&B. It would be their last single to reach the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 until 1988. The song also charted on the adult contemporary and UK Singles charts, #17 and #30, respectively. David Gates
David Ashworth Gates (December 11, 1940 – January 5, 2023) was a American singer-songwriter, guitarist, musician and producer, frontman and co-lead singer (with Jimmy Griffin) of the group Bread, which reached the top of the musical charts in Europe and North America on several occasions in the 1970s. The band was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Life and early career Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gates was surrounded by music from infancy, as the son of Clarence Gates, a band director, and Wanda Rollins, a piano teacher. James Dexter Weatherly (March 17, 1943 – February 3, 2021) was an American singer-songwriter who wrote mostly pop and country music. He played quarterback at the University of Mississippi while also writing music with his own bands. He subsequently chose songwriting over a football career. His notable songs include "The Need to Be" and " Midnight Train to Georgia". Early life Weatherly was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, on March 17, 1943. He attended Pontotoc High School, where he was an all-star quarterback for the school's football team. He also started writing songs and formed his own bands during this time. He went on to study at the University of Mississippi. He was a backup quarterback on the Ole Miss Rebels football team that was undefeated in 1962. "You and Me Against the World" is a song written by Kenny Ascher and Paul Williams, recorded by Helen Reddy for her 1974 album ''Love Song for Jeffrey''. "You and Me Against the World" was the first written by Williams teaming up with Ascher, a member of his band. It began as a gag song. Williams and Ascher had a discussion about their favorite songwriters which led to the spontaneous composition on the subject whose tune, Ascher then realized, had real hit potential. The song is sentimental in its lyrics, discussing "all the times we cried" and "when one of us is gone and one is left to carry on."
