2 Bad Mice
Formed in 1991, 2 Bad Mice are an English breakbeat hardcore group, composed of Sean O'Keeffe, Simon Colebrooke, and Paul Rhodes. Rob Playford was originally the third member and the owner of the Moving Shadow record label. In the 1990s, the group had two singles that charted in the UK. History O'Keefe and Colebrooke first experimented with music in 1990, using equipment and spare time at Playford's home studio. The trio formed 2 Bad Mice in 1991. Drum and bass (also written as drum & bass or drum'n'bass and commonly abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 165–185 beats per minute) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. The genre grew out of the UK's rave scene in the 1990s. The popularity of drum and bass at its commercial peak ran parallel to several other UK dance styles. A major influence was the original Jamaican dub and reggae sound that influenced jungle's bass-heavy sound. Another feature of the style is the complex syncopation of the drum tracks' breakbeat. Breakbeat is a broad type of electronic music that tends to use drum breaks sampled from early recordings of funk, jazz, and R&B. Happy hardcore, also known as 4-beat or happycore, is a subgenre of hardcore dance music or "hard dance". It emerged both from the UK breakbeat hardcore rave scene, and Belgian, German and Dutch hardcore techno scenes in the early 1990s. Deep Blue is the alias of electronic and drum and bass musician Sean O'Keeffe. O'Keeffe started producing music in 1991 with the hardcore group 2 Bad Mice, co-writing their hit, "Bombscare". In 1993, he began to write and release under the alias Deep Blue, producing "Helicopter Tune" (also heard in the PSP and PlayStation 2 game '' Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories'' (2005) and in the game '' Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition'' (2005) for the Moving Shadow record label. The track reached number 68 on the UK Singles Chart in April 1994. In 1997, Deep Blue was one of several Moving Shadow artists which left the label to form their own imprint, Partisan Recordings.
