''NBA 2K'' is a series of basketball sports simulation video games developed by Visual Concepts and released annually since 1999. The premise of the series is to emulate the sport of basketball, and more specifically, the National Basketball Association. The series was originally published by Sega Sports. Beginning with 2005's ''NBA 2K6'', the series is currently published by 2K Sports. As of 2021, the series consists of twenty-three main installments and several spinoff titles across eighteen different platforms. An official eSports league, the '' NBA 2K League'', launched in 2018. Until 2018, the series' primary rival was EA Sports' '' NBA Live'' series. Gameplay Each installment in the ''NBA 2K'' series emulates the National Basketball Association, and present slight improvements over the previous installments. WWE 2K
''WWE 2K'', formerly released as ''WWF/E SmackDown!'' and ''SmackDown vs. Raw'', is a series of professional wrestling sports video games that launched in 2000. The premise of the series is to emulate the sport of professional wrestling, and more specifically, that of WWE. The games were originally published by THQ and developed by Yuke's. 2K Sports took over as publisher beginning with 2013's '' WWE 2K14'', and the series was co-developed with Visual Concepts until Yuke's departure in 2018. Visual Concepts would take over lead development of the series beginning with ''WWE 2K20'' in 2019. ''NFL 2K'' is an American football video game series developed by Visual Concepts and published by Sega. The series was originally exclusive to Sega's Dreamcast video game console due to the absence of EA Sports's Madden NFL series on the system. As the foremost "2K" title, it marked the beginning of a running athletics series that eventually led to the spinning off of 2K's sports publishing business under the name of 2K Sports. Upon the Dreamcast's discontinuation, the series continued to be published for other sixth generation game systems and became the chief competitor of the ''Madden'' series. After the competitively priced ''NFL 2K5'' significantly reduced sales of that year's '' Madden'' release, EA signed an exclusivity deal with the NFL that made ''Madden NFL'' the only series allowed to use NFL team and player names. ''NHL 2K'' was a series of hockey games developed by Visual Concepts. It was published by Sega Sports from 2000 to 2004, and 2K Sports from 2005 to 2014. The games are officially licensed from the National Hockey League and NHL Players Association. The series was initially developed for consoles, with its main competitor being EA Sports' ''NHL'' series. Beginning with the release of ''NHL 2K11'' in 2010, the series would eventually become exclusive to mobile devices. ''MLB 2K'' was a series of baseball video games that was developed by Visual Concepts and Kush Games, and published by 2K Sports. The series was licensed by, and based on, the Major League Baseball professional baseball organization. It was a successor to the '' World Series Baseball'' games, which were published by Sega. 2K Australia Pty Ltd (formerly Irrational Games Australia Pty. Ltd.) was an Australian video game developer based in Canberra. The company was founded as Irrational Games Australia, a subsidiary of Irrational Games, in April 2000. 2K Czech, s.r.o. (formerly Illusion Softworks, a.s.) was a Czech video game developer based in Brno. Founded as Illusion Softworks in 1997 by Petr Vochozka and Jan Kudera. The company was acquired by Take-Two Interactive in January 2008 and subsequently organised under the 2K label, becoming 2K Czech. The studio was merged into 2K's Hangar 13 in 2017.
