28th Genie Awards
The 28th Genie Awards were held on March 3, 2008 to honour films released in 2007. The ceremony was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The show was broadcast on E! and Independent Film Channel and hosted by Sandra Oh. Controversy The nominations for 2008 faced some controversy when director Jason Reitman issued a statement expressing his disappointment that the hit film ''Juno'', which had a Canadian director, Canadian stars (Elliot Page and Michael Cera) and a Canadian crew, and was filmed in Canada, did not qualify for a nomination. Sara Morton, the head of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, issued a statement indicating that the film — which was produced by an American film studio — had not been submitted for Genie Award consideration. Metro Toronto Convention Centre
Metro Toronto Convention Centre (originally and still colloquially Metro Convention Centre, and sometimes MTCC), is a convention complex located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada along Front Street (Toronto), Front Street West in the former Railway Lands in downtown Toronto. Paul Webster (producer)
Paul Webster (born 19 September 1952) is a British film producer. Life and career Webster has worked both as an independent, and with several production companies. He worked with Working Title Films for five years, setting up their Los Angeles office. Between 1995 and 1997 he was Head of Production for Miramax Films. In 1998 he joined Channel 4 to create Film Four. In 2004 he joined Kudos Film and Television, heading their film unit, Kudos Pictures. Robert Lantos
Robert Lantos, Order of Canada, CM (born 3 April 1949) is a Hungarian-Canadian film producer. Life and career Lantos was born on 3 April 1949 in Budapest, the son of Ágnes (Bodor) and László Lantos, a mechanic and truck company owner. Lantos spent much of his childhood in Montevideo, Uruguay, where his family fled after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He immigrated to Canada in 1963. Lantos studied literature at McGill University in Montreal and graduated with a BA (1970) and an MA (1972). Kim McCraw (born ) is a Canadian film producer and co-founder of the Montreal-based production company micro_scope, with Luc Déry. She was born in Granby, Quebec, and after graduating from Cégep de Granby became a director's assistant. McCraw met Dery while working on a short film in Granby. It was in 2004 that she joined the micro_scope team as a producer, and subsequently became a co-shareholder.
