Japan Academy Film Prize
The , often called the Japan Academy Prize, the Japan Academy Awards, and the Japanese Academy Awards, is a series of awards given annually since 1978 by the Japan Academy Film Prize Association (日本アカデミー賞協会, ''Nippon Akademii-shou Kyoukai'') for excellence in Japanese film. Award categories are similar to the Academy Awards. Venue Since 1998 the venue is regularly the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa of Prince Hotels in Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Admission tickets for this award ceremony are also sold to regular customers. As of 2015, there is a charge of 40,000 Yen which includes a French cuisine course dinner named after the award ceremony. Akihiko Shiota
(born 11 September 1961, Maizuru, Kyoto) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Career Shiota attended Rikkyo University, where he was in a film club with other students such as Makoto Shinozaki and Shinji Aoyama and began making 8mm films in the tradition of other Rikkyo students like Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His independently made films were recognized at the Pia Film Festival and he began writing film criticism and working as an assistant for Kurosawa and other filmmakers. He also studied screenwriting under Atsushi Yamatoya, who wrote scenarios for Seijun Suzuki, and worked as the cinematographer for films by Takayoshi Yamaguchi. His first two films as a director, ''Moonlight Whispers'' and '' Don't Look Back'', were both released in 1999 and earned Shiota the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. Kiichi Nakai
is a Japanese actor. His name was given by Yasujirō Ozu. His father, Keiji Sada, also a movie actor, died when Nakai was only two years old. Nakai started his acting career while he was still in university and was awarded the Rookie of the Year at the Japan Academy Awards in 1981. He won the Japan Academy Best Supporting Actor award in 1994 (for ''47 Ronin'') and Best Actor award in 2003 (for '' Mibu gishi den'' (''When the Last Sword is Drawn'')). Azumi (film)
is a 2003 Japanese jidaigeki film directed by Ryûhei Kitamura and starring Aya Ueto, Yuma Ishigaki, Shun Oguri, Hiroki Narimiya, Takatoshi Kaneko, Eita, Shogo Yamaguchi and Joe Odagiri. ''Azumi'' is an adaptation of Yū Koyama's manga series of the same title, and was followed by the sequel '' Azumi 2: Death or Love'' in 2005. Tomoyuki Furumaya
(born 14 November 1968) is a Japanese film director. Career Born in Nagano Prefecture, Furumaya was attending Nihon University when his 16mm film, '' Shakunetsu no dojjibōru'', won the grand prize at the Pia Film Festival. That earned him a Pia Scholarship to make his first theatrical feature, '' This Window Is Yours'', a film that won the first Dragons and Tigers Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival and helped him get the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award in 1994. His film ''Bad Company'' won a Tiger Award and the FIPRESCI Award at the 2001 Rotterdam Film Festival. is a Japanese screenwriter and director for television and film. Career Kimizuka first entered the Japanese television industry by working on variety shows under Kin'ichi Hagimoto. He then began writing screenplays for television dramas, including such hits as ''Zutto anata ga suki datta'' and ''Bayside Shakedown''. He has branched out into screenplays for film, including the hit ''Bayside Shakedown'' films, as well as directing. Isshin Inudo
is a Japanese film director. Career Inudo began making films on his own in high school, with one of his works being selected for the 1979 Pia Film Festival. After attending Tokyo Zokei University, he found work at Asahi Promotions where he began directing television commercials, including some award winning ones.
