26th Network Operations Group
The United States Air Force's 26th Cyberspace Operations Group is a network operations unit located at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The group was commanded by Colonel Sean Kern in June 2018. In 2016 an Air Force cyberspace network defense system attained full operational capability. Cyberwarfare is the use of computer technology to disrupt the activities of a state or organization, especially the deliberate attacking of information systems for strategic or military purposes. As a major developed economy, the United States is highly dependent on the Internet and therefore greatly exposed to cyber attacks. At the same time, the United States has substantial capabilities in both defense and power projection thanks to comparatively advanced technology and a large military budget. The 26th Network Operations Squadron (26 NOS), United States Air Force, is a network operations unit located at Gunter Annex, in Montgomery, AL. History The squadron was established as the 1987th Communications Squadron on June 1, 1966, at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, before moving to Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado on October 31, 1975.
