26th Busan International Film Festival
The 26th Busan International Film Festival opened on October 6 at the Busan Cinema Center in Busan, South Korea with South Korean film '' Heaven: To the Land of Happiness'' by Im Sang-soo. Park So-dam and Song Joong-ki hosted the opening of the festival, which was streamed live on YouTube. In 26th edition, 223 films from 70 countries were officially invited to the festival. 63 community service screenings were also part of the festival. In addition, this year BIFF opened two special programs, ‘New Voices, Chinese Films’ dedicated to emerging, talented Chinese directors, and the best Asian films by female directors, ‘Wonder Women Movies’, to highlight the contribution of female directors to the world of cinema. Indo-Canadians
Indian Canadians are Canadians who have ancestry from India. The terms ''Indo-Canadian'' or ''East Indian'' are sometimes used to avoid confusion with the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Anita (2021 Film)
''Anita'' () is a 2021 Hong Kong biographical musical drama film about Cantopop star Anita Mui directed by Longman Leung, with a script written by Leung and Jack Ng. Louise Wong, in her screen role debut, stars as the titular singer, depicting her life from childhood until her last moments before her death of cervical cancer in 2003. The film features an ensemble cast, including Fish Liew, Gordon Lam and Louis Koo in supporting roles. Production of the biopic began in the 2010s when Bill Kong, president of Edko Films, initiated the project to commemorate Mui's legacy. Leung signed on the project and took over a year to write the script with Ng, as well as finalize the cast. Principal photography took place in 2018. Darcy Paquet
Darcy Paquet (born 1972) is an American film critic, university lecturer, author and actor. In 2010, Paquet was awarded the Korea Film Reporters Association Award at the 15th Busan International Film Festival for his contributions in introducing Korean cinema to the world. Paquet was also the founder and organiser of Wildflower Film Awards Korea which presents the Wildflower Film Awards. Education Paquet, a Massachusetts native, majored in Russian language at Carleton College in Minnesota and had a Master in Applied Linguistics at Indiana University. Career Having made many Korean friends in graduate school, Paquet went to Seoul in 1997 to teach English at Korea University and had planned to stay briefly before going to the Czech Republic. Since 1998, Paquet became a special advisor and English editor for the Korean Film Council. Uhm Jung-hwa
Uhm Jung-hwa (; born August 17, 1969) is a South Korean singer, actress and dancer. Uhm is considered to be one of the most influential women in the Korean entertainment industry, finding rare success in both music and film. Nanfu Wang
Nanfu Wang (born 1985) is a Chinese-born American filmmaker. Her debut film ''Hooligan Sparrow'' premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2017. Her second film, ''I Am Another You'', premiered at SXSW Film Festival in 2017 and won two special jury awards, and her third film, ''One Child Nation'', won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Feature at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
