The Imperial Russian Army (russian: Ру́сская импера́торская а́рмия, tr. ) was the armed land force of the Russian Empire, active from around 1721 to the Russian Revolution of 1917. In the early 1850s, the Russian Army consisted of more than 900,000 regular soldiers and nearly 250,000 irregulars (mostly Cossacks). 3rd Army (Russian Empire)
The Russian Third Army was a World War I Russian field army that fought on the Eastern Front (World War I), Eastern theatre of war. Field management was established in July 1914 at the headquarters of the Kiev Military District. The unit was disbanded in the beginning of 1918. At the beginning of the war the 3rd Army was composed of the IX, X, XI, XXI Army Corps. Yuri Nikiforovich Danilov ; – 3 February 1937) served as General of the Infantry in the Russian Army during World War I. From 1907 to 1914, Danilov was in charge of the Intelligence Section of Russian Main Staff of the Imperial Russian Army.''Secret Soldiers of the Revolution'' by Raymond W. Dmitry Zuyev
Dmitry Petrovich Zuyev ( – 4 September 1917) was an Imperial Russian Army general. He was commander of the 1st Infantry Division from 1907 to 1910. He fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 and the Eastern Front of World War I. He commanded the 25th (1910-1914) and the 29th Army Corps (1914-1915). In September 1915 he was appointed commander of the Dvinsk Military District. After the February Revolution, he was removed from office and enlisted in the reserve of ranks at the headquarters of the Petrograd military district. He died on 4 (17) September 1917 in Petrograd. The Russian 2nd Army (2-я армия, ''2А'') was an army-level command of the Imperial Russian Army in World War I. It was formed just prior to the outbreak of hostilities from the units of Warsaw Military District and was mobilized in August 1914. 5th Army (Russian Empire)
The Russian Fifth Army was a World War I Russian field army that fought on the Eastern theatre of war. Action The 5th Army saw action at the Battle of Rawa, (3–11 September 1914). Under the command of General Pavel Plehve, they advanced into a forty-mile gap in the Austrian line between the Austrian First and Fourth armies. The Austrian chief of staff, General Franz Conrad, ordered a general retreat: the Austrians fell back over one hundred miles and lost 350,000 men.
