''2541'' is the first solo EP by Grant Hart, formerly of the band Hüsker Dü. It was his first solo release after the break-up of Hüsker Dü in January 1988 and was released as a 3-inch mini CD single and as a 12-inch, 45 rpm vinyl single. "2541" and "Come, Come" were re-recorded for the album ''Intolerance'' (1989). The name was inspired by 2541 Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, the headquarters of influential independent record label Twin/Tone Records. For a time, Hüsker Dü had an office space next door to Twin/Tone at 2539. Marshall Crenshaw, who later covered "2541" for his 1996 album '' Miracle of Science'', said of the song, "I know that it was real personal to artwhen he wrote it, but there's something universal about it." Critical reception Ira Robbins, in ''Trouser Press'', called the title track "a touchingly sad acoustic folk-rock number with a typically catchy melody." Grant Hart
Grantzberg Vernon Hart (March 18, 1961 – September 13, 2017) was an American musician, best known as the drummer and co-songwriter for the punk rock band Hüsker Dü. After the band's breakup in 1988, he released his first solo album ''Intolerance'' before forming the alternative rock trio Nova Mob, where he moved to vocals and guitar. His solo career became his main focus after the dissolution of Nova Mob in 1997. As the co-songwriter of Hüsker Dü, Hart's songs (such as "The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill" and " Turn on the News") received praise from critics and contemporaries. His vocal style, in contrast to that of Hüsker Dü bandmate Bob Mould, had a more measured and melodic delivery. His choice of lyrical themes, which ranged from teenage alienation in "Standing by the Sea" and the depiction of a murder in " Diane," to playful story-telling in "Books About UFOs," helped to expand the subject matter of hardcore punk. Miracle Of Science (album)
''Miracle of Science'' is the seventh studio album by singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw, and his first studio effort for the indie imprint Razor & Tie. Having left the major labels to increase his creative control, Crenshaw produced the album and played most of the instruments. Due to its status as Crenshaw's first indie album and first largely-self performed album, ''Miracle of Science'' has been singled by Crenshaw as a "case of circling back" to his pre-major label roots. He was largely spurred to record the album due to his faith in the song "What Do You Dream Of?": he explained, "I had 'What Do You Dream Of' as of 1992, a few years before the album. To some extent it was about needing to do an album in order to get that song out. You couldn't just do a single back then, at least I didn't think so." Twin/Tone Records
Twin/Tone Records was an independent record label based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which operated from 1977 until 1994. It was the original home of influential Minnesota bands the Replacements and Soul Asylum and was instrumental in helping the Twin Cities music scene achieve national attention in the 1980s. Along with other independent American labels such as SST Records, Touch and Go Records, and Dischord, Twin/Tone helped to spearhead the nationwide network of underground bands that formed the pre-Nirvana indie-rock scene. These labels presided over the shift from the hardcore punk that then dominated the American underground scene to the more diverse styles of alternative rock that were emerging. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''.
