''24 Days'' (french: 24 jours, la vérité sur l'affaire Ilan Halimi — lit. 24 Days: The True Story of the Ilan Halimi Affair) is a French drama film directed by Alexandre Arcady released in 2014. It examines The Affair of the Gang of Barbarians of January 2006. Synopsis On a Friday night of January 2006, after Shabbat dinner with his mother (Zabou Breitman) and sister, 23-year-old Ilan Halimi (Syrus Shahidi) receives a phone call. Ilan quickly arranges to meet up with the caller, a beautiful young woman, and is subsequently attacked and kidnapped by a gang. The following afternoon, the Halimi family are sent a harrowing online message demanding a ransom for Ilan's return. Ilan's parents, Ruth and Didier Halimi (played by Pascal Elbé), immediately contact the police. Ilan Halimi
The murder of Ilan Halimi ( he, אילן חלימי) was the kidnapping, torture, and murder of a young Frenchman of Moroccan Jewish ancestry in France in 2006. Halimi was kidnapped on 21 January 2006 by a group calling itself the Gang of Barbarians. The kidnappers, believing that all Jews are rich, repeatedly contacted the victim's modestly placed family demanding very large sums of money. Halimi was held captive and tortured for three weeks, and died of his injuries. The case drew national and international attention as an example of antisemitism in France. Kidnapping Halimi was a mobile phone salesman living in Paris with his divorced mother and his two sisters. On 20 January 2006, one of the perpetrators, Sorour Arbabzadeh (known as Yalda or Emma ), a 17-year-old woman of French-Iranian origin, went to the phone store in Paris where Halimi worked and struck up a conversation with him. Antisemitism in France is the expression through words or actions of an ideology of hatred of Jews on French soil. Jews were present in Roman Gaul, but information is sketchy before the fourth century. As the Roman Empire became Christianized, restrictions on Jews began and many emigrated, some to Gaul.
