24Hours (TV Program)
''24Hours'' is a one-hour news and current affairs program that was broadcast by CBWT, the CBC television station in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. History It began on October 5, 1970, (on the same day that James Cross was kidnapped by the FLQ in Quebec) and was first broadcast between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.. The original on-air hosts were Garth Dawley (news), Murray Parker (weather), Don Wittman and Bob Picken (sports), John Harvard and Gerry Haslam (interviewer). On occasions, others contributed to the program, namely Heather Hildebrandt (CBC Winnipeg public affairs department) and freelancers Alice Poyser and Per Holting. Bill Morgan was the producer in the first year, and executive producer in the second. Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis. It is also different from the news magazine show format in that the events are discussed immediately. Betacam is a family of half-inch professional videocassette products developed by Sony in 1982. In colloquial use, "Betacam" singly is often used to refer to a Betacam camcorder, a Betacam tape, a Betacam video recorder or the format itself. All Betacam variants from (plain) analog recording Betacam to Betacam SP and digital recording Digital Betacam (and additionally, HDCAM and HDCAM SR), use the same shape videocassettes, meaning vaults and other storage facilities do not have to be changed when upgrading to a new format. Janet Stewart (born March 3, 1967) has been the news anchor at CBWT in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada since January 9, 2007. Prior to that, she was news anchor at CKY-TV between August 2001 and November 2006. Before she moved to Winnipeg, Stewart worked at CTV Halifax, and Global Maritimes also as news reporter and anchor. Mort Crim
Mort Crim (born July 31, 1935) is an author and former broadcast journalist. Crim joined Channel 4 (soon to be named WDIV-TV) in Detroit in 1978. Crim stayed with the station 19 years before retiring from anchoring TV newscasts in 1997. Previously, he served as an anchor at WHAS-TV in Louisville, KYW-TV in Philadelphia and WBBM-TV in Chicago. Crim was considered to be a top candidate by former ABC News president Roone Arledge to be a co-anchor for ABC's '' World News Tonight'' newscast in 1978. In 1984, he hosted a technology program on PBS, ''New Tech Times''. Crim is also a founder of a Detroit area integrated marketing agency, Mort Crim Communications, Inc.
