The 23rd Satellite Awards is an award ceremony honoring the year's outstanding performers, films, television shows, home videos and interactive media, presented by the International Press Academy. The nominations were announced on November 28, 2018. The winners were announced on January 3, 2019, and the ceremony was held on February 22, 2019. For this cycle of the Satellite Awards, the categories Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress were split into Drama and Comedy/Musical categories. Previously, they had been joined in one category since the 16th ceremony in 2011. The Favourite
''The Favourite'' is a 2018 period black comedy film co-produced and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, from a screenplay by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara. Set in early 18th century Great Britain, the film's plot examines the relationship between cousins Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (Rachel Weisz), and Abigail Masham ( Emma Stone) as they vie to be court favourite of Queen Anne ( Olivia Colman). Principal photography for the British-Irish-American production lasted from March to May 2017 and took place at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire and at Hampton Court Palace. The film premiered on 30 August 2018 at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for Colman. ''First Man'' is a 2018 American biographical drama film directed by Damien Chazelle and written by Josh Singer. Based on the 2005 book '' First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong'' by James R. Hansen, the film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, alongside Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Christopher Abbott, and Ciarán Hinds, and follows the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969.
