Champlain (provincial Electoral District)
Champlain is a provincial electoral riding in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the eastern portions of the city of Trois-Rivières as well as Saint-Tite, Saint-Maurice and Sainte-Thècle. Its boundaries have remained the same since the 1973 election. However, the boundaries changed for the 2018 election as it gained Hérouxville, Lac-aux-Sables, Notre-Dame-de-Montauban, Saint-Adelphe, Sainte-Thècle, Saint-Séverin and Saint-Tite from Laviolette. It is named after the founder of Quebec City in 1608, Samuel de Champlain. Maurice Bellemare
Maurice Bellemare, (8 June 1912 – 15 June 1989) was a politician in Quebec, Canada. He was known as ''Le Vieux Lion de la Politique Québécoise'' (The Old Lion of Quebec Politics) because of his colourful style and his many years of public office. Bellemare was one of the last survivors of the Union Nationale party. Member of the legislature Born in Grand-Mère, Quebec, Bellemare served seven consecutive terms as Member of the Legislative Assembly for the district of Champlain in the Mauricie area. He was a member of the Union nationale and first was elected in the 1944 provincial election at the age of 32, when Maurice Duplessis was put back in office as Premier of Quebec. Gaining influence Bellemare served as the Deputy Government House Whip, from the 1948 provincial election to 1953, and as the Government House Whip, from 1953 to 1959. Jonathan Robinson (Canadian Politician)
Jonathan Robinson (November 18, 1894 – October 11, 1948) was a Canadian lawyer and provincial politician. He was born in Waterloo, Quebec and was the grandson of Asa Belknap Foster. In 1928, he married Florence Walker McMaster, daughter of Andrew Ross McMaster. He studied law at McGill University and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1938. He served as secretary of the Bar of Montreal in 1932 and 1933. Robinson was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the Union Nationale for Brome from 1936 until his death in 1948.
