219th Engineer Brigade (United States)
The 219th Engineer Brigade is a combat engineer brigade assigned to the 38th Infantry Division of the Indiana Army National Guard. Soldiers of the 219th Engineer Brigade provide various supportive duties to other Army units, including construction, engineering, and mechanical work on other Army projects. The 219th was originally activated in 2007 as the 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, one of ten other self-sufficient battlefield surveillance brigades that were activated during efforts to reform and modernize the US Army. Its original mission was to improve situational awareness for commanders at division-level or higher. However, in 2015, battlefield surveillance brigades were declared obsolete. Five out of the ten brigades were reorganized into expeditionary military intelligence brigades. Two were disbanded. The other three were converted into different types of units. Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (United States Army)
A shoulder sleeve insignia (often abbreviated SSI) is an embroidered patch worn on some uniforms of the United States Army. It is used by major formations of the U.S. Army; each formation has a unique formation patch. The U.S. Army is unique among the U.S. Armed Forces in that all soldiers are required to wear the patch of their headquarters as part of their military uniforms. Shoulder sleeve insignia receive their name from the fact that they are most commonly worn on the upper left sleeve of the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) and Army Green uniform. However, they can be placed on other locations, notably on the side of a helmet. Shoulder sleeve insignia worn on the upper right sleeve of Army uniforms denote former wartime service. Battlefield Surveillance Brigades In The United States Army
The battlefield surveillance brigade (BfSB) was a United States Army surveillance/reconnaissance formation introduced from 2006 to 2015. The United States Army planned for the creation and transformation of nine intelligence brigades to a 'battlefield surveillance' role in 2007. The first battlefield surveillance brigade was deployed the same year conducting Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Intelligence ( ISR) operations. However, gathering information is only a part of the challenge it faces. Along with the structural changes and intelligence capabilities, the sustainment capabilities of the brigade also changed. The 150th Field Artillery Regiment ("The Raiders") is a field artillery unit in the Indiana Army National Guard. History The 150th Field Artillery was formed from the 1st Indiana Field Artillery, which served during the Spanish–American War. The Indiana Field Artillery was at service on the Mexican border when the United States declared war on Germany in 1917. As the United States mobilized for World War I, the Indiana Field Artillery became federalized as the 150th Field Artillery, and assigned to the 42nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division, which participated in several major battles in 1918. 38th Infantry Division (United States)
The 38th Infantry Division is an infantry division of the United States Army and part of the Indiana National Guard. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and contains Army National Guard units from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan and West Virginia. Formed in 1917, the division earned the special designation Cyclone Division after the division's training camp at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, was damaged by a springtime tornado.
