211th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 211th Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment of the Florida Army National Guard. The regiment was active during the Cold War era as part of the 51st Infantry Division. The regiment's headquarters was in Miami. The 211th Infantry performed their first annual field training at Fort Jackson from July 4 to 18, 1948 as part of the 51st Infantry Division. Companies C and G were ordered into State Active Duty to aid civil authorities in hurricane relief. Lieutenant Roland Fisher commanded Company G (3 officers and 83 soldiers) during the relief operation in Fort Lauderdale from October 5 to November 15, 1948. Captain Richard H. Coburn commanded Company C (3 officers and 48 soldiers) during relief operations from October 5 to 7, 1948. Florida Army National Guard
The Florida Army National Guard is Florida's component of the United States Army and the United States National Guard. In the United States, the Army National Guard comprises approximately one half of the federal army's available combat forces and approximately one third of its support organization. Federal coordination of various state National Guard units are maintained through the National Guard Bureau. The Florida Army National Guard was composed of approximately 10,000 soldiers (as of March 2009). The main state training grounds is Camp Blanding. The 48th Armored Division was a division (military), division of the United States Army National Guard from September 1946 until 1968. The 124th Infantry Regiment is a parent regiment of the United States Army, represented in the Florida Army National Guard by the 1st Battalion headquartered in Miramar and 2nd Battalion at Orlando. The two Battalions are elements of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is an infantry brigade combat team of the Florida Army National Guard. The 53rd Infantry Brigade is the largest National Guard unit in the state of Florida. The brigade was one of fifteen enhanced readiness brigades, designed and trained to support active duty divisions. The brigade includes 32 units in Florida and Alabama with 4,166 authorized personnel. Fort McClellan
Fort McClellan, originally Camp McClellan, is a decommissioned United States Army post located adjacent to the city of Anniston, Alabama. During World War II, it was one of the largest U.S. Army installations, training an estimated half-million troops. After the war it became the home of the Military Police Corps, the Chemical Corps and the Women's Army Corps. From 1975 and until it was closed in 1999, Fort McClellan was home of the Military Police Corps and the One Station Unit Training (OSUT) Military Police School. Fort Jackson is a United States Army installation, which TRADOC operates on for Basic Combat Training (BCT), and is located within the city of Columbia, South Carolina. This installation is named for Andrew Jackson, a United States Army general and the seventh president of the United States (1829–1837) who was born in the border region of North and South Carolina.
