20th New York Asian Film Festival
The 20th New York Asian Film Festival was held in New York from 6 August to 22 August 2021. The opening film of the festival was ''Escape from Mogadishu'', a South Korean film by Ryoo Seung-wan. Seventy titles were screened both online, as well as in person. The 20th edition of the festival featured two world premieres, six international premieres, twenty nine North American premieres, eight U.S. premieres and nine New York premieres. 2021's festival featured the first ever outdoor screening of Raymond Lee’s wuxia 1992 film ''New Dragon Gate Inn'' at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park on August 11. The event was co-presented by Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York. The Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film was awarded to ''Anima'' by Cao Jinling. Escape From Mogadishu
''Escape from Mogadishu'' () is a 2021 South Korean action drama film, directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and starring Kim Yoon-seok, Jo In-sung, Heo Joon-ho and Kim So-jin. The film, based on real events, is set during the Somali Civil War and the two Koreas' efforts to be admitted to the United Nations in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It depicts details of a perilous escape attempt made by North and South Korean embassy workers stranded during the conflict. With a production cost of 24 billion, ''Escape from Mogadishu'' was anticipated to release in summer of 2020 but its release was postponed due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released theatrically on July 28, 2021, by Lotte Entertainment in IMAX format. Prataya Saha is an independent filmmaker, Tedx performer, theatre director and photographer, based out of Bengaluru and Dubai. Vincent Kok Tak-chiu (; born 15 August 1965) is a Hong Kong actor, scriptwriter and film director. Vincent's ancestral hometown is Shandong province. Kim Ji-hoon (born 1971), also spelled Kim Ji-hun, is a South Korean film director. Life and career Kim Ji-hoon was born in Daegu. After graduating from Hanyang University's Theater and Film Art Department, he worked as an assistant director on a number of films. He made his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the film ''Mokpo, Gangster's Paradise'', starring Cha In-pyo and Cho Jae-hyun.
