20th Bundestag
This is a list of members of the 20th and current Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany. The 20th Bundestag was elected in the 2021 German federal election, 26 September 2021 federal election, and was constituted in its first session on 26 October 2021. The 20th Bundestag is the largest in history with 736 members, 138 seats larger than its minimum size of 598. Originally, it comprised 206 members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), 197 members of the CDU/CSU, 118 members of Alliance 90/The Greens (GRÜNE), 92 members of the Free Democratic Party (Germany), Free Democratic Party (FDP), 83 members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), and 39 members of The Left (Germany), The Left (LINKE), as well as one member of the South Schleswig Voters' Association, who sits as a non-attached member. Reichstag Building
The Reichstag (, ; officially: – ; en, Parliament) is a historic government building in Berlin which houses the Bundestag, the lower house of Germany's parliament. It was constructed to house the Imperial Diet (german: Reichstag) of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Diet until 1933, when it was set on fire. In World War II, during the Battle of Berlin, the building was severely damaged by the Soviet Red Army. After the War, the building fell into disuse; the parliament of the German Democratic Republic (the ) met in the Palast der Republik in East Berlin, while the parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (the Bundestag) met in the in Bonn. The ruined building was made safe against the elements and partially refurbished in the 1960s, but no attempt at full restoration was made until after German reunification on 3 October 1990, when it underwent a reconstruction led by architect Norman Foster. Johannes Huber
Johannes Huber (born 12 January 1987) is a German politician and since 2017 member of the Bundestag. Life and politics Huber was born 1987 in the West German town of Moosburg and studied sociology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Huber entered the AfD in 2014 and became after the 2017 German federal election member of the bundestag. In December 2021 Huber left the AfD and their parliamentary group. Political positions In autumn 2020 Huber posted several messages in Telegram groups of Covid denial, COVID-Deniers ("Querdenker") and calls on its members to "terrorize" politicians of other parties. Katharina Dröge
Katharina Dröge (born 16 September 1984) is a German economist and politician of Alliance 90/The Greens who has been serving as co-chair of the Green Party’s parliamentary group in the Bundestag since 2021, alongside Britta Haßelmann. She previously served as one of the group’s managers () from 2018 to 2021. She has been a member of the Bundestag since 2013. Education and early career On a scholarship of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, Dröge studied economics at the University of Cologne from 2004 to 2010. Anton Hofreiter
Anton "Toni" Hofreiter (born 2 February 1970) is a German politician who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag since the 2005 elections. Political career As a member of Alliance 90/The Greens, Hofreiter has been a member of the Bundestag since the 2005 elections. Between 2005 and 2013, he served as member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development; he served as chairman of the committee from 2011 until 2013. He was also member of the German-Austrian Parliamentary Friendship Group. Joachim-Friedrich Martin Josef Merz (born 11 November 1955) is a German lawyer and politician, serving as Leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 31 January 2022 and as leader of the Union parliamentary group as well as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bundestag since 15 February 2022. Ralph Brinkhaus (born 15 June 1968) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Christian Democratic Union (CDU). He served as parliamentary leader of the CDU/CSU group in the Bundestag from 2018 to 2022. Rolf Heinrich Mützenich (born 25 June 1959) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) who has been serving as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag since June 2019. Petra Pau
Petra Pau (born 9 August 1963) is a German politician of The Left. She has been a member of the Bundestag since 1998. Since 2006, she has also served as one of the Vice Presidents of the Bundestag, being the first member of her party to hold this office. Pau belongs to the reform-oriented wing of her party, actively supporting parliamentary representative democracy. Wolfgang Kubicki
Wolfgang Kubicki (born 3 March 1952) is a German politician of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) and member of the Bundestag from 1990 until 1992 and 2017 onwards. He has been vice chairman of the FDP in Germany since December 2013. Since 24 October 2017 he has served as Vice President of the Bundestag. Katrin Dagmar Göring-Eckardt (born Katrin Dagmar Eckardt; 3 May 1966) is a German politician of the German Green Party (officially known as Alliance 90/The Greens). Claudia Benedikta Roth (born 15 May 1955) is a German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens). Yvonne Magwas (born 28 November 1979) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). A member of the German Bundestag since 2013, she has been its Vice President as of October 2021.
