208th Coastal Division (Italy)
The 208th Coastal Division ( it, 208ª Divisione Costiera) was an infantry division of the Royal Italian Army during World War II. Royal Italian Army coastal divisions were second line divisions formed with reservists and equipped with second rate materiel. Recruited locally, they were often commanded by officers called out of retirement.Jowett p 6 History The division was activated on 15 November 1941 in Palermo by reorganizing the VIII Coastal Sector Command. The division was assigned to XII Army Corps, which was responsible for the defense of the western half of the island of Sicily. The division was responsible for the coastal defense of the coast between, but excluding the cities of Palermo and Trapani. The division fought against units of the American Seventh Army after the allies landed on Sicily on 10 July 1943. 208th Division (People's Republic Of China)
The 165th Division () was created in November 1948 under ''the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army'', issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 3rd Independent Division of Northeastern People's Liberation Army, formed in April 1948. The division was under direct control of the Field Army. In March 1949 the division was renamed as 208th Division () and was transferred to Pingjin Garrison Command. The division was then composed of: *622nd Infantry Regiment; *623rd Infantry Regiment; *624th Infantry Regiment. The 208th Infantry Division, or 208.''Infanterie-Division'' in German, was a large military unit that served during World War II. Like most German infantry divisions, the bulk of its troops were foot-mobile infantry supported by horse-drawn artillery. The 208th Infantry Division was formed on 26 August 1939. it served in the invasion of Poland of 1939 as a reserve division of Army Group North and was commanded by General Moritz Andreas.
