2024 United States Senate Election In Vermont
The 2024 United States Senate election in Vermont will be held on November 5, 2024, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Vermont. Primary elections took place on August 13, 2024. Incumbent three-term Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent who caucuses with the Democratic Party, was re-elected with 67% of the vote in 2018. He is running for re-election. Sanders filed paperwork to run for re-election in 2019. On January 8, 2024, he stated he would decide whether or not to seek re-election in the "near future." Bernard Sanders (born September8, 1941) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States senator from Vermont since 2007. He was the U.S. representative for the state's at-large congressional district from 1991 to 2007. Sanders is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history. The 2024 United States Senate elections are scheduled to be held on November 5, 2024, as part of the 2024 United States elections. 33 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate will be contested in regular elections, the winners of which will serve six-year terms in the U.S. Congress from January 3, 2025, to January 3, 2031. Senators are divided into three groups, or classes, whose terms are staggered so that a different class is elected every two years. Class 1 senators were last elected in 2018, and will be up for election again in 2024.
