2024 Romanian Presidential Election
Presidential elections are going to be held in Romania in either mid- or late November 2024, with an eventual second round to be held in late November or early December 2024 as well (depending on the final results of the first round). As the Romanian Constitution allows a maximum of two presidential terms (consecutive or not), incumbent President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, first elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019, is not eligible for re-election anymore. Nevertheless, there is an ongoing speculation according to which the forthcoming Romanian presidential elections might occur earlier than to term, assuming that incumbent President Klaus Iohannis would be nominated as Secretary General of NATO and that he will accept the nomination, then the next Romanian presidential elections will likely take place in 2023 instead of 2024. The president of Romania ( ro, Președintele României) is the head of state of Romania. Following a modification to the Constitution of Romania, Romanian Constitution in 2003, the president is directly elected by a two-round system and serves for five years. Dan Barna (born 10 July 1975) is a Romanian politician and lawyer. He served as the president of the Save Romania Union (USR), and as co-president of USR-PLUS until 1 October 2021. He was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 2016. Biography Barna was born in Sibiu, Sibiu County, Socialist Republic of Romania on 10 July 1975. He graduated from the law school at the University of Bucharest in 1998 and obtained a master's degree in project management from Politehnica University of Bucharest in 2003. The Conservative Party ( ro, Partidul Conservator, PC) was a conservative political party in Romania. It was founded in 1991, approximately two years after the fall of Communism in Romania, originally under the name Romanian Humanist Party ( ro, Partidul Umanist Român, PUR). The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats ( ro, Alianța Liberalilor și Democraților, ALDE) was a minor liberal political party in Romania which was officially absorbed in its entirety by the National Liberal Party (PNL) during late March 2022. The Liberal Reformist Party ( ro, Partidul Liberal Reformator, PLR) was a minor, allegedly centre-right and pseudo-liberal political party in Romania founded on 3 July 2014 by former PNL president Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu. In February 2014 the National Liberal Party (PNL) split from the Social Liberal Union (USL) alliance with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and later in July 2014 joined the European People's Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament. Călin Constantin Anton Popescu-Tăriceanu (; born 14 January 1952) is a Romanian politician who was Prime Minister of Romania from 29 December 2004 to 22 December 2008.
