2024 Pakistani General Election
General elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on 8 February 2024 to elect the members of the 16th National Assembly. The detailed schedule was announced by Election Commission of Pakistan on 15 December 2023. The two major parties are Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the largest party in the previous elections, is fielding its candidates as Independents after a controversial Supreme Court ruling stripped them of their electoral symbol in the run-up to the elections. 2018 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Election
Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of the 11th Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alongside nationwide general elections and three other provincial elections in Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab. The remaining two territories of Pakistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, were ineligible to vote due to their disputed status. Background In the 2013 elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, led by former cricketer Imran Khan emerged as the largest party in the province with 48 seats. Arif-ur-Rehman Alvi (; born 29 July 1949) is a Pakistani dentist and politician currently serving as the 13th President of Pakistan, in office since 9 September 2018. He was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from June 2013 to May 2018 and again from August to September 2018. Lettergate is an American-Pakistani political affair set off by a conversation at a farewell lunch for the then-Pakistani ambassador to the United States Asad Majeed Khan, which took place on 7 March 2022 at Khan's official residence, also known as Pakistan House. A diplomatic telegram (Cypher No. I-0678) sent by Ambassador Khan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was based on the notes taken by the note-taker, who was from the embassy of Pakistan based in Washington, D.C. Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Punjab on to elect the members of the 17th Provincial Assembly of the Punjab on 25 July 2018, alongside nationwide general elections and three other provincial elections in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The remaining two territories of Pakistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, were ineligible to vote due to their disputed status.
