2024 McLaughlin, provisional designation , is an asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 8 kilometer in diameter. It was discovered 23 October 1952, by the Indiana Asteroid Program at Goethe Link Observatory near Brooklyn, Indiana, and named after American astronomer Dean Benjamin McLaughlin. Orbit and classification ''McLaughlin'' orbits the Sun in the inner main-belt at a distance of 2.0–2.6  AU once every 3 years and 6 months (1,295 days). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.14 and an inclination of 7 ° with respect to the ecliptic. The asteroid was first identified as at the Finnish Turku Observatory in 1938, extending the body's observation arc by 14 years prior to its official discovery observation. McLaughlin (Martian Crater)
McLaughlin Crater is an old crater in the Oxia Palus quadrangle of Mars, located at . It is in diameter and deep. The crater was named after Dean B. McLaughlin, an American astronomer (1901-1965). The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has found evidence that the water came from beneath the surface between 3.7 billion and 4 billion years ago and remained long enough to make carbonate-related clay minerals found in layers. McLaughlin Crater, one of the deepest craters on Mars, contains Mg-Fe clays and carbonates that probably formed in a groundwater-fed alkaline lake. An albedo feature is a large area on the surface of a planet (or other Solar System body) which shows a contrast in brightness or darkness (albedo) with adjacent areas. Historically, albedo features were the first (and usually only) features to be seen and named on Mars and Mercury.
