The 2024 European Parliament election in Sweden will be held on 9 June 2024 as part of the 2024 European Parliament election. This will be the seventh European Parliament election held in Sweden, and the first to take place after Brexit. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. Sara Skyttedal
Sara Magdalena Skyttedal (born 6 August 1986) is a Swedish politician of the Christian Democrats party. She was elected Member of the European Parliament in the 2019 European Parliament election in Sweden. Between 2013 and 2016, she chaired the Young Christian Democrats. From 2016 to 2019, she was a municipal commissioner for Linköping. Early life and education Skyttedal studied political science, political economy and history science at Stockholm University. Folklistan
Folklistan () was a Swedish electoral alliance between individual candidates running in the 2024 European Parliament elections. Folklistan was launched by Jan Emanuel, a former Social Democratic Party MP, and Sara Skyttedal, an MEP previously with the Christian Democrats in April 2024. They are also the group's main candidates for the European Parliament elections 2024. Sara Skyttedal was elected Member of the European Parliament in 2019 for the Christian Democrats, who are grouped with the European People's Party. She left the party in February 2024, but remained in parliament as an independent. Michael David Alexander Lega (born 12 October 1973) is a Swedish politician for the Christian Democrats, and a former paralympic swimmer who beat 14 world records during his career. He is a Member of the European Parliament since 2019, and serves on the Committee on foreign affairs and the Committee of human rights. The Christian Democrats ( sv, Kristdemokraterna ; KD) is a Christian-democratic political party in Sweden founded in March 1964. It first entered parliament in 1985, through electoral cooperation with the Centre Party, and in 1991 broke through to win seats by itself. The party leader since 25 April 2015 has been Ebba Busch. The Moderate Party ( sv, Moderata samlingspartiet , ; M), commonly referred to as the Moderates ( ), is a liberal-conservative political party in Sweden. The party generally supports tax cuts, the free market, civil liberties and economic liberalism. Webster/Sainte-Laguë Method
The Webster method, also called the Sainte-Laguë method () or the major fractions method, is a method for allocating seats in a parliament among federal states, or among parties in a party-list proportional representation system. The method was first described in 1832 by the American statesman and senator Daniel Webster. In 1842 the method was adopted for proportional allocation of seats in United States congressional apportionment (Act of 25 June 1842, ch 46, 5 Stat. 491). It was then replaced by Hamilton method and in 1911 the Webster method was reintroduced. The method was again replaced in 1940, this time by the Huntington–Hill method.
