2023–24 Toronto Maple Leafs Season
The 2023–24 Toronto Maple Leafs season is the franchise's 107th season (106th season of play) in the National Hockey League. The Leafs will attempt to improve on their 50–21–11 record in the 2022–23 season, avenge their five-game loss to the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs, and make it to and win their first Stanley Cup since 1967. Since the Pittsburgh Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006, the Maple Leafs currently hold a tie for the longest active playoff streak with their rivals, the Boston Bruins, with both making the playoffs every year since 2017. The Maple Leafs played two games in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena on November 17 and 19 as part of the NHL Global Series. Brad Treliving was named general manager on May 31, 2023, after the team parted ways with Kyle Dubas at the end of the 2022–23 season. Atlantic Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League has used the name Atlantic Division for two distinct groups of teams. The original Atlantic Division, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division, was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference in a league realignment. As part of a 2013 realignment, the entirety of the former Atlantic Division was realigned into the Metropolitan Division. The Atlantic Division name was assigned to a new division comprising the entirety of the former Northeast Division plus the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning (coincidentally, both were members of the original Atlantic Division until 1998) from the now-dissolved Southeast Division, and the Detroit Red Wings, who moved from the Central Division of the Western Conference. The 2022–23 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the franchise's 106th season in the National Hockey League. On March 27, 2023, the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot after the Ottawa Senators defeated the Florida Panthers. On April 29, the Maple Leafs won their First Round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, which was the first playoff series win for the franchise since 2004. In the Second Round, the Maple Leafs lost to the Florida Panthers in five games. Kyle Dubas
Kyle Dubas (born November 29, 1985) is a Canadians, Canadian ice hockey executive who is currently the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Dubas spent his youth in various roles with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League, including a term as the team's general manager after graduating from university. He attended Brock University and graduated with a degree in Sports Management, and started his career by briefly acting as a sports agent, player agent. Dubas joined the Maple Leafs organization as an assistant general manager in 2014, and played a key role in developing the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2018, the Marlies captured the Calder Cup as AHL Champions. At the time of his hire, Dubas was the second youngest general manager in NHL history, behind John Chayka of the Arizona Coyotes. The 2005–06 Pittsburgh Penguins season was the team's 39th season in the National Hockey League (NHL). The season was notable for being Sidney Crosby's rookie campaign. However, Crosby's first year didn't help the team, as they suffered another losing season, finishing last place in the Eastern Conference with 58 points, the second worst in the NHL. During the season Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang each played in their 1,000th NHL game, joining Sidney Crosby as the only players in franchise history to accomplish this feat while playing all 1,000 games for the Penguins. 1967 Stanley Cup Finals
The 1967 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 1966–67 season, and the culmination of the 1967 Stanley Cup playoffs. A best-of-seven series, it was contested between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs won the series four games to two. In doing so, they won their thirteenth Stanley Cup championship. To date, this is Toronto's last appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals and they have the longest-active championship drought in the NHL at 54 (not including 2004–05 lockout) seasons.
