2023–24 Dallas Mavericks Season
The 2023–24 Dallas Mavericks season was the 44th season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). At the February trade deadline, the Mavericks were 8th in the Western Conference with a 29–23 record when they acquired center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards and forward P. J. Washington from the Charlotte Hornets. With Gafford, Washington and rookie Dereck Lively II on the roster, the team went 22–9 since the deadline and finished 5th in the West. They improved upon their 38–44 record from last season and qualified for the playoffs after a one-year absence. They would also win the Southwest Division title over the New Orleans Pelicans near the end of the regular season. Jason Frederick Kidd (born March 23, 1973) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Regarded as one of the greatest point guards and passers of all time, Kidd was a 10-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBA First Team member, and a nine-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. He won an NBA championship in 2011 as a member of the Dallas Mavericks and was a two-time gold medal winner in the Olympics with the U.S. national team in 2000 and 2008. He was inducted as a player into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The 2011 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) 2010–11 season. The Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks defeated the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat in six games to win their first NBA championship. The series was held from May 31 to June 12, 2011. Mavericks forward and German player Dirk Nowitzki was named the Finals MVP, becoming the second European to win the award after Tony Parker ( 2007) and the first German player to do so. The 2023–24 Minnesota Timberwolves season was the 35th season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
