2023–24 Cymru Premier
The 2023–24 Cymru Premier ( cy, Uwch Gynghrair Cymru 2023–24; known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons) was the 32nd season of the Cymru Premier (formerly known as the Welsh Premier League), the highest Association football, football league within Wales since its establishment in 1992. Cymru Premier
The Cymru Premier, known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons, is the national football league of Wales. It has both professional and semi-professional status clubs and is at the top of the Welsh football league system. Prior to 2002, the league was known as the League of Wales (LoW), but changed its name as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League. The league was rebranded as the Cymru Premier for the 2019–20 season. Penybont (also sometimes spelled Pen-y-Bont) is a small village in Radnorshire, Powys, Wales. The population of the community at the 2011 census was 428. The community includes the settlement of Llandegley. Penybont colliery The Penybont colliery was opened by the Jaynes Tillery Colliery in 1851. In the 1880s the mine was taken over by Powell's Steam Coal Company Ltd who deepened the mine in 1886. (Note: This colliery is in Abertillery, nowhere near Penybont in Radnorshire). The 2021–22 Cymru Premier ( cy, Uwch Gynghrair Cymru 2021–22) (known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons) was the 30th season of the Cymru Premier (formally known as the Welsh Premier League), the highest football league within Wales since its establishment in 1992. Connah's Quay Nomads were the defending champions. Teams played each other twice on a home and away basis, before the league split into two groups after phase 1 matches were completed. Due to Wales losing a European place, the format of the play-offs changed, with the prize now being a place in the Scottish Challenge Cup. Teams Twelve teams competed in the league – the same twelve teams as the previous season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cymru North and Cymru South leagues were unable to be played the previous season, therefore no teams were able to be promoted. The 2022–23 Cymru South season (also known as the 2022–23 JD Cymru South season for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth season of the second-tier Southern region football in Welsh football pyramid. Teams played each other twice on a home and away basis. Llantwit Major were the defending champions from the 2021–22 season but were denied a Tier 1 license, so runners-up Pontypridd Town were promoted in their place. Barry Town United were relegated from the 2021–22 Cymru Premier, returning to the second tier after their five-year spell in the top flight.
